Let's bring some troop home, and their UAVs with them.

Securing the border with Hellfire missiles is probably the best idea ever.

So we can kill 1000's of Innocents by mistake ?

How about we go after the people that employe them

Not many US Citizen running around the Mexican border all willy nilly.

Much better they don't make it here to be employed in the first place.

I don't know how people can truly believe that living life as an undocumented migrant in this country is in any way desirable. I would wager a guess that given the opportunity to come here in the way our spouses do, those poor schmucks that sneak across the southern border would take that over their path any day of the week and twice on Sundays. To pretend that they are somehow better off is just utterly ridiculous.

And you're still missing the point entirely. The simple point I was making is that migrating here illegally is neither easier nor provides a faster path to immigration benefits than lawfully migrating here as the fiance(e) or spouse of a US citizen. There are petitioners here in this discussion that have suggested otherwise. All I did was point out that such notion is utterly ridiculous. That's all. Clear now?

Your previous comment said nothing about speed nor ease, rather that doing so legally was preferable (which can't exactly be true, or there wouldn't be over 12 million illegal aliens here today).

You are correct in saying that entering illegally does not provide a faster path to immigration benefits. However, it is my opinion that entering illegally is a faster path to residence in the US. A small distinction, but one that MANY have chosen to take the path of least resistance. More than half of the 12+ million illegal aliens entered legally but overstayed.

Considering that just over 1 million legal immigrants enter the US each year, one would have a hard time justifying which method is preferable unless a time limit were imposed. For sure, being patient, spending all the time and money required to enter legally, and not being a convicted criminal so that a legal entry CAN be made would be preferable to any person wishing to become an upstanding citizen of the US.

But consider that there is probably a fair proportion of those 12+ million illegals who could never have entered legally anyway (no sponsor or criminal activity), so illegal entry WAS their preferred (only) entry vehicle.

Lol. They already DO have K-1 as their option. But they can't afford the money, time, investment in educational and language skills etc. it takes to go through this.

Earth to Dog: they're taking the easy way. By the tens of thousands at a time - no end in sight. Most importantly, for them, they get what they are after the instant they're over. For many, that would include the first doctor or dentist they have ever seen, free.

Talk about easy. Jesus, if you told that to us: that all my wife had to do was get here, and she would be given permission to stay. Are you CRAZY? We would have done it overnight!! We considered sneaking her in, absolutely. The anguish of this legal abomination was killing us.

Secure the border, stop the flood, fix the system for people immigrating legally, THEN figure out a system to give LPR status to those already here illegally. No citizenship or voting rights. Set a date for policy to take effect, and any children born AFTER this date will be US citizens and have voting rights. That takes care of the problem of one party gaining new members as there will be no new voters for 18 years.

This must be done to stop a rush of illegals trying to get here to beat the buzzer.

That is the only way anything will get resolved.

However, note that the entire citizenship/voting issue is really a red herring because the 'path to citizenship', of which many speak in exacerbated histrionics, is just a misnomer. The path from LPR to citizenship is clear. There are residence requirements to be considered. Also the issue of citizenship by birth is already addresses by the 14th amendment, and imho that is the one item that need to be changed. IMHO citizenship by birth should be a privilege, not a right, inherited based on the status of the parents. So, if you want to travel as a tourist to the US just so you deliver your baby in one of our hospitals, fine, but don't do it just because you envision a greencard in 20-odd years or so.

That seems 100% sensible to me. It makes no sense to institute policies that give people the belief (true or not) that if they come here illegally, they will be allowed to stay. That's is exactly what the Obama administration is doing. I personally don't think it's some unintended consequence of this policy either. I believe it to be intentional, despite what they may say publicly.

IMO, there should be NO path to citizenship or voting rights for this amnesty or whatever it will be called. NO new voters for 18 years. Let's keep it pure and simple, doing what's best for the country, not for 2 political parties vying for new voters.
