Hi, I'd be interested in knowing what you have to take with you to the UK medical in London?

Do they just want vaccination certificate?

thanks

Richard

Local clinics set their own prices for an exam and vaccinations. Coming from the UK, you may find yourself with a bad case of 'sticker shock' at the prices for healthcare in the US.

Exactly! Just wait until you're paying that each month for healthcare insurance. I'm still in shock lol

Does anyone know why the exam is so costly?? 245 pounds thats almost $400?? Are other countries that expensive?

It isn't cheap, but you have to look at it from a different perspective. Knightsbridge is a contracted to perform U.S., and Australian medicals by Embassies or Government of these countries - exclusively. UK's medical cost isn't cheap, and London is not a city with low rent and/or lease either. That 245GBP may sound like a lot of money to an individual, but it only amounts to week's pay - under minimum wage. You're asking whether medical exam (warranted by U.S., or Australian government) in other countries is expensive. Expensive is a relative term really, and you must know the cost of living in countries of interest.

We've found it's not the actual fees that are the killer, but all the little stuff that adds up- like getting the proper copies of certificates, papers and shots if moving pets, criminal record check, not to mention travel expenses if you're visiting in between. If you live a distance from the medical clinic, and/or the consulate then factor in travelling for that as well. And don't forget about clothes and stuff if moving to a different climate!

I think its expensive everywhere it cost 400 euro in IReland .537.60 US Dollar

Also one thing that annoyed was I didn't even need one shot, As I was up to date with everything.

So with no shots 400 euro

Or with full shots 400 euro , bit of a joke really how it can be the same price without a single shot.

No this doesn't include vaccinations it's the exam and chest X-rays.....guess I was just surprised that it was so high given health care system in UK is generally free!

Plus having to travel to London costs money....one would think they would have more than one clinic approved to conduct these exams!!

Are you saying that the whole of the uk has to travel to London ? thats crazy.

I wonder does the whole of Ireland have to travel to Dublin also.

It was handy for me cause I lived in Dublin about 15 mins away from the place.

The entire process cost a lot.

Yes the entire process does add up and I am a US citizen so I am aware of health care costs but I am fortunate to have very good health care through my job with very little out of pocket expense. I think I assumed UK healthcare would be different and that NHS would cover this but given it is a private physician and the only place one can go for the exam I guess they can set whatever fee they want to charge. My fiance is about two hours from London so I guess it could be worse!

The whole of the UK including Northern Ireland must travel to London twice. Once for medical exam and again for the interview.

These are the UK required fees. I haven't worked out other countries. Just substitute anything listed in pounds sterling (£) with the cost for that item in your country.

K1 London route = $1680 + £290

$340 (USCIS) I-129F petition

£45 (ACPO) Police certificate just before petition approval

£245 (Knightsbridge Doctors) medical exam. Pay at exam.

$240 (Embassy) Visa fee prior to interview. Online pay.

$30 Courier fee if home delivery, $0 to pick up at a depot. Online.

$1070 (USCIS) Adjustment of Status/Work Authorization/Advance Parole

Yes it's expensive, but for K1 visa you don't need to take vaccinations even if they are not up to date, you just need them in US for adjusting status.. Other way medical exam would cost even more, they charge quite much for eatch shot..

Vaccinations can be expensive in the US too. And if you get all the required vaccinations marked off on a properly filled out DS-3025 at the time of your K-1 medical, then you will only need to send a copy of that along with your AOS paperwork. Otherwise, you will need to get the missing shots in the US and find and pay a civil surgeon for an I-693. Civil surgeons have no regulated, set prices.
