father has previous pettion

Hello vjers!i am planning to petition my father hopefully next year,but he was petitioned by her sister in 1988 but never got any notice of approval until now.my question is will the previous petition affect if i file a pettion next year?TIA

you might want to have the sister inquire with USCIS call center , via telephone, for the status of the petition she filed.

You can have multiple petitions going, go with the quickest.

I saw that the priority dates for siblings from the Philippines were in 1991, you said he was petitioned in 1988, so it's current. If the petition was approved you can use that process and it wouldn't be necessary to petition him now. It sounds strange that they approved it now and not back when the priority dates were in 1988. Of course I don't know if they just jumped from 1988 to 1991. You want to check with USCIS and NVC to make sure that the petition is valid and if the priority date is current. If it is that's great because the sibling process allows to bring spouse and minor children. So if your dad is married and has children under 21, they can come as derivatives.
