The message of goodness, love and a clean heart has been lost to many Americans for a long time. It is unfortunate though as the moral decay continues.

IMHO people as so disgruntled with they own lives and the bad choices they made, they just can't bring themselves to empathize anymore. 'Screw my neighbor so he too can share my misery' seems to be mind frame of many. I do however believe they are a minority and don't represent the majority of the American people.

I missed the part in the constitution about the executive branch being responsible for providing drinking water to homes.

On 28 July 2010, through Resolution 64/292, the United Nations General Assembly explicitly recognized the human right to water and sanitation and acknowledged that clean drinking water and sanitation are essential to the realisation of all human rights. The Resolution calls upon States and international organisations to provide financial resources, help capacity-building and technology transfer to help countries, in particular developing countries, to provide safe, clean, accessible and affordable drinking water and sanitation for all.

In November 2002, the Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights adopted General Comment No. 15 on the right to water. Article I.1 states that "The human right to water is indispensable for leading a life in human dignity. It is a prerequisite for the realization of other human rights". Comment No. 15 also defined the right to water as the right of everyone to sufficient, safe, acceptable and physically accessible and affordable water for personal and domestic uses.

I didn't see anyone asking someone to spend their own money to fix these people's bills.

People are only suggesting our know nothing politicians come up with an alternative for these people until they can pay their bill. No one should go without clean water.

I agree. People should have clean water. However . Put a few 5K potable water tanker here and there like they did when our water treatment plant here failed.

This is not about having clean water. This is about a city that did not cut peoples water off or so long, a large number of people just stopped paying. As I said. As soon as they cut it off, almost all came up with the money to get it cut back on

Did you? You don't think everyone has a right to drinking water for free? Is this a new and improved version of right wing extremism?

Is it free to purify the water and to build and maintain the infrastructure that transports water to these homes? Of course not. These things don't magically happen. They require money.

“Socialists are happy until they run out of other people's money.”

Margaret Thatcher

You can step up and spend some of your money.... But I doubt you ever will.... You liberals....It is spend others money. ... If every liberal skipped going out to dinner tonight this would be a non issue tomorrow ... If you sent that money to this organization. ....

This is not a personal argument, so don't turn it into one. It's irrelevant which you know and are deliberately trying to make this about whether I personally feel responsible for people in Detroit being deprived of the right to a fundamental resource, water. It's not my personal responsibility, I can do what I like about the issue personally, but it doesn't change the fact that either the US stands up for all its citizens and upholds this fundamental human right or it does not, the US loses yet one more notch in its claim to be a first class place to live which as I live here, I find to be an important issue.

I only see one logic flaw in this.

The United Nation nations do not make law for he US. The constitution does.

Once again. clean drinking water is available to these people. Piping it into their homes for free, not so much

I'm sure these people didn't wake up, yawn and say you know what? Today I am deciding not to pay my water bill because I want my a$$whole to be stanky, my breath, doo doo and pee left in my toilet and no drinking water for me and my family.

I'm sure it was a choice between, rent (because many can't afford to buy a house up there anymore), electricity, food, and what ever little money they had left to get to work to get the little money they are surviving with.

Really? How shocking. So, tell me, where do you propose people who have descended into this cycle of poverty access fresh water for washing and drinking and flushing their toilets? They already have no money, so what do they do? As a resident who pays my taxes and my water bills, I don't mind in the least supporting those who are not lucky enough to have these resources, this is water we are talking about, not a ###### cell phone.

I swear I don't know why this is so hard. This is about people who made a choice to not pay the water bill, because for years Detroit did not disconnect.

Almost 100% found the money to get the water turned back on when it was cut off.

This is not about cutting off and capping the one well in a remote village because they can't pay for the pump.

We are makers of these resolution and backers of it. How in the he!! can we expect other people and countries to abide by this if we do not.

I know, you are okay with us going back on our word and ignoring laws and duties of the U.S. when it is convenient. I get it.

Hmm the U.N. Ok then. Here's a map of Michigan:

great-lakes-map.jpg

See all those blue things surrounding the state of Michigan? That is the largest fresh water resource in the world! Maybe load up a few jugs, head over to one of them, and fill up. Sorry if I don't feel sorry for them. There's people around the world that would love be near that kind of water resource.

Where? You keep saying it and yet I see no proof that they have any access to water at all. You do know how a Cholera epidemic starts, don't you?

No , it was more like they were over at the neighbors house, and the neighbor said, I have not paid my bill in over a year, how about you. Then it became an epidemic.

So tell me if. If these poor souls were stuck in poverty and can't afford the bill.

How is it that after almost every disconnection they find the money to turn it on .
