Perhaps the Canadians could supervise any provide cleaning products. Cheaper than supplying bottled water.

Yes, bottled water is too expensive. Do you think the Canadians would pitch in when the drains at the Y get clogged with food particles and body hair? Do you think they've got some spare pipe snakes?

Actually, it is an individual problem. I have water because I pay my bills.

A natural disaster such as damage caused by a tornado (not democrats) would warrant government intervention. Paying their bills for them will simply further the problem.

This was a natural disaster caused by our idiotic politicians. Detroit was doing okay until the auto industry crashed. Then they decided to cut the pensions in Detroit 4.5% but why are the politicians still receiving their same salary. They should take a cut too to support the economy of Detroit, not it's citizens only.

I agree, but the only solution I see is to recreate public pumps so that people have access to water. They can haul it to their own house. But since this has been eliminated, I think it would be rather expensive to dig up the ground and pipe it in, and make the drains, etc. Not to mention making this accessible, let's say, one in every square mile. Then, what to do when people start bathing at the pumps, washing their dishes there, etc. Do you think the neighbors that have paid would settle for people bathing themselves in public in view of their house?

I wonder if the military has some stock portable shower setups. Maybe these could be placed in pubic parks. I'm sure we pay for these to be used/stocked in the desert, why not here? I think the distribution of drinking water could easily be done by setting up "distribution" points. Load up some deuce and a half's with gallons of water and have them park and hand out water at designated points at designated times. This would still have to be cheaper than paying water/sewage bills ya know?

I have seem some coverage and it would appear to be racism, they were all African American.

I call BS. I bet not a single one of them have even visited Africa, let alone came from there.

They are just black Americans.

Gallon jugs of the cheapest water are still more expensive than piping it in to an existing infrastructure. You have to pay for the jug and the transportation. Flowing water flows for free, fyi.

For comparison, I checked the current cost of water in my locale. About $3 for 1,000 gallons of water! How many gallon jugs do you get for $3, maybe, 6 if I am generous?

Edit: oopsie, added a zero.

Its def more efficient. I just don't think its inconvenient enough to motivate people to start paying again when they can. I've met too many people that know how to "game" the system to think this is an acceptable solution. Its the same problem that exists with any type of aid. You want people in need to get what they need but you don't want people to use it as a living.

And no, sorry, I would not suggest to a person for them to take their children to drink from a stream the bears and deers are pissing in.

You'd be surprised what you'd do 8 your life depended on it. But in just 48 hours, I doubt the negligent bill paying residents who THOUGHT they would skip out on paying got anywhere near desperate.

Darn a ploy that gets foiled before it even gains momentum!!

Some of them only had bills of $150. Wow!! Big savings! Please let me skip out on paying this because I can save sooo much money.<_<

Okay, what about an allotment of free water a month, lets say, 2K gallons? $6 per house ("retail" cost).

I agree with some of what you are saying, but setting up some National Guard solution is just way more expensive than just piping in some water.

I think the whole system is flawed. What about rolling it in to tax payments, non payment gets liens put on your house?

And if they can't afford their bills, why aren't they applying for aid? Not clear on that.

Its a good idea I suppose. You touch on a good point though. The issues we talk about on here day to day are almost always simplified by our attempt to propose an "obvious solution." Realistically, as you have shown. there are always many many points to be considered and these problems require anything but a simple one fits all solution.

Please post your sources on people paying their cable instead of water, the approximate cable bill, the percentage of people who paid cable over water please and if the people who paid the cable instead of water were the people who had their water turned off.

thanks

Just for the record, I think both of you make excellent points and I will be voting for you both!
