I am a Muslim by birth and US Citizen currently living in Virginia. I am planning to get married to a Moroccan Citizen currently living in Morocco.

The requirement for a US citizen to marry in morocco is a major hassle and it is an extremely lengthy process. Since my work will not give me more than two weeks of vacation, i am wondering if i should apply for a fiance visa and get married in USA.

Can anyone tell me if there are any disadvantages of getting fiance visa? I am planning to travel to morocco in mid August. So, i would be greatful if someone can reply to me as soon as possible.

thanks

With the K-1 Visa, your fiance would come over here, you would marry, and then you would file for AOS or Adjustment of Status. My husband and I took this route. It's a little more expensive than the marriage visa because you have to apply to adjust your status once you've arrived--which means applying for the green card. With the marriage visa, your wife would arrive and would receive a green card--no applying for AOS necessary.

The rules and comparisons between the two are in the guides section http://www.visajourney.com/content/compare. You might want to check it out to see what fits your needs better. You'll see exactly what is required for both types of visas.

There is no advantages or disadvantages. You two need to talk to each other on what both of your heart desires.

Some couples choose to have a long engagement (fiance visa , etc) and some couples choose to get married right away (spouse visa). It is up to you two, and only you two if you are ready to take the next step and be married. If you want to talk more about plans before getting married like wedding venue, etc. and honeymoon than I would do the fiance visa. There is really no advantage or disadvantage. Just have a talk with your significant other

The major disadvantage of a fiancé visa verses a spousal visa is the Adjustment of Status. The nice part of the AOS means that you will not be separated after marriage. However, it costs $1070 and the foreign spouse cannot work or leave the USA for about 90 days while waiting for their EAD(work authorization) or AP (travel authorization.) For a man, this may be harder to do, especially if they are used to working or you have a traditional type family. It is one of those things you need to talk about as a couple and is more important than it seems at first glance. 3 months is a long time, as you'll learn going through this journey. CR1 have a green card upon arrival to the USA so they can work, travel for emergencies etc, right away.

Also, historically in Morocco, K1 visas have a tendency to be denied whereas CR1 have a much higher approval rate.

However, if neither of you are ready to be married yet, neither visa is appropriate as both end up in marriage.

You do not have to get married in Morocco, you can get married in any country you wish, so perhaps travelling to a third country for a wedding might be ideal for the two of you.

All great info except....I believe OP is a male and would "historically" not fall under this. Just my observation. :)

The way we look at it is not any of us can answer that question for you. If you guys feel the time is right, then schedule a time to get married. But if things are still getting into place and adjusting then have a longer engagement.

Set aside the visa time length.. That does not matter. What matters is if you are ready for the next step like we stated before. Marriage is a BIG step and when that time comes you both will know.

I haven't read any other posts by the OP. There is absolutely no way of telling from the original post on this thread what their gender is.

I understand the profile says male but I also know several females on the board who have this as their gender, for whatever reason.

I looked up Moroccan marriage requirements for US citizens,

and they are complex and can take a long time like you said

and you can't travel there that long.

So I think your best bet is fiancée visa.

If you have a strong relationship, backed up by solid evidences,

and you two can meet all requirements (marriageability, clean criminal records,

income level of petitioner, etc.), fiancée visa should go OK.

Good luck!
