We met online on Facebook. He was in Afghanistan (deployment) and we just started talking like that. We eventually met in person in NYC and it was love at first sight! He is the best thing that's ever happened to me. I don't regret one day taking this chance even though many of my friends were afraid that he would be a creep. LOL

We got engaged after a year of long distance dating. After I finished college, we decided to apply for the K1 visa for me to move to the U.S. I am really excited to be with him for the rest of my life ! :)

Not really any cultural differences. We're both Filipino, but I was raised in French Canada, so a few French expressions that he may not get, but he's learning ;)

I used to be embarrassed when people would ask me how we met... but I got over it. We've been dating for almost 4 years now.

I met my husband online on this silly website called hot or not in May 2010, he was deployed (Afghanistan) at time. We started talking just as friends but then realised we meant a lot more to each other than just friends, we met in LA on his leave (late Sep 2010) and spent a month together in his home town (Boise). He popped the question 2 days before we were set to fly back (me to Aus and him to Okinawa) and of cos I said yes!

We skyped everyday and even went to sleep together on skype, I went to visit him in Okinawa that Dec/Jan and we had so much fun, you really cherish those moments. In March 2011 he PCSed to Twentynine Palms and he managed to rent a house off base so I came to visit for 3 months in early April and we decided to elope a day before his birthday (our wedding certificate is stamped my birthday - we are week apart) and even adopted a puppy to keep him company while I was away. Ironically I was the one doing all the leaving and he was the one in the military! Ha. We continued this way till we finally decided to look into filing paperwork for me to join him by then it was Sep 2011, we really didn't know what to do. I came to visit in late Oct 2011 and he really started to look into it (he couldn't take me leaving again), we attended an immigration session on base in San Diego Nov 2011 and that really got the ball rolling. We filed AOS Dec 2011, everything went quite fast but our interview was delayed by a mix up with our old ASC and CSC after an address change. We were finally approved at our interview at Chula Vista July 2011 and by then I was 8 weeks pregnant with our daughter (she is now 17 MO and a handful).

My family adore him (they came to visit us in California several times and we even did a road trip together CA to ID via Vegas - it was crazy and awesome!) and he finally made the trip to Australia last Sep and met the rest of my family.

We have been married just over 3 years and been together a little over 4. I am thankful for everyday I get to wake up next to him and not have to worry when I will see him next. We filed ROC end of May 2014 and were approved July 23rd (2 weeks after my GC expired).?

We met almost the same way! Except we met on Facebook, and he was deployed in Afghanistan at the time :) He said I made him want to live everyday when he was there. :)

Thanks to all of you who also shared your stories of love, it is inspiring to read other stories like mine. I know none of our going thru the exact same thing, but we are all crazy in love with another person. While I 1000% don't agree with the whole K1 visa process, the outcome is worth it everytime. I pray everyday to see my fiancé in person again, to touch him, to be in his arms. So may God bless all of you, and may all your relationships be a dream come true. (L)(L)(L)

K, my turn. I'm actually a CR-1 filer, now divorced from the USC who brought me here, but I shall tell ye of a LONG story that now fills my heart with joy...

So, in 2008 I decided to teach Summer Camp in America, part of one of those work abroad programs. After camp and while travelling and drunk in Boston, I apparently booked a flight for the next day to San Diego - only finding out in the morning when I found the booking number scribbled on my hand. I made an online booking for the cheapest hostel I could find in San Diego, and boarded my flight.

At the hostel, I'd been trying to get an early night (bad idea!). I got woken up by loud noises outside. I leaned out the window to see a man smoking a cigarette and making monkey noises. I yelled at him to shut up and got a response of "Why don't you come down here and make me?!" So I did. He offered me a cigarette and we chatted for a bit. Then we chatted some more, and then we chatted all the way through the night until the next morning, and the very last as the door shut and he drove away. He was also on a vacation and was heading home to Maine. I was sad to say goodbye, and spent the rest of my time chilling with the dudes in my co-ed dorm. One had cracking abs and a gorgeous smile, one was hilarious and super friendly, and the third one was intelligent, engaging, and magnetic. Not a bad dorm for a single girl to be in ;)

I spent the following 6 months chatting online to Monkey Noises, and we agreed I would fly out and see him again, to see if we clicked, or to just get closure on a great memory. Well, when I came down the escalator and saw him stood there in the San Diego airport, I knew there would be no closure - we were perfect together in so many ways! We found ways to be together, and eventually married at the courthouse in October 2010.

Then I discovered that the visa clock don't stop just because he put a ring on it - we'd waited so long to file, that I was out of my 90 day VWP status, and was on an overstay. I should have done my research, but I didn't, and this left me with only one option - leave the US and file from England, before I clocked 180 days and got a ban (anything under that, you just lose VWP privileges). So I left, got a job in the UK, tried to keep myself busy while I-130 was pending and hubby saved up to fly out.

Problem was, in the heat of young love and living a rock and roll lifestyle, I'd neglected to notice how irresponsible hubby was, and as the months ticked by, I watched him spend every penny he earned, and some of my money meant for paying fees, on drink and drugs. Turned out that he didn't even have a passport. In the 10 months I was overseas, I didn't see him once.

Eventually they put my paperwork through, interviewed me, and approved me as an American-in-training ;) and I got a stamp to let me back home, to my true love. Sadly, when I got back, I wasn't comforted with the love I'd found in 2008 - this was was a different man, who was distant and non-committal. Despite relocating for him, he'd not even saved enough for a deposit on a flat. We moved in with his parents, and after 1 month and a HUUUUGE fight, I called an old friend, crying and frustrated, and he drove out in the middle of the night to help me move out. The old friend in question just happened to be one of the three sexy roommates from the beginning of my story - I'd kept in touch with Mr Magnetic, and he actually became a roommate of hubby for a while before got married, so we were all firm friends.

Me and hubs tried to make it work. Well, I did... I found a job, gave him a portion of my pay each month, paid for his moving fees, got him to move in with me and the old friend, and even found him a job. But the more I did for him, the more he pushed away, and the more old friend stepped in to pick up the pieces. Thinking about it now, as I write it out logistically, as platonic as my friendship was with old friend, he was already being the everything in my life. I just wouldn't realize it for a little while longer...

We're now at September 2012 in my lifestory, and hubby reveals to me that he is, in fact, going through a bankruptcy. He'd filed in Florida, where we'd briefly lived with his parents, and now he was living with me and old friend in Nashville, and they'd told him he had to show proof of continued residency in Florida to finalize the thing. In October he announces he's flying back "only for a few weeks" to get things sorted out. By December it had become clear that he had no intention of moving back, and after one last visit out to see him, about the millionth HUUUUGE fight, and one particularly awkward night at Medieval Times, he asked for a divorce. I was wrong when I thought there was no goodbye more painful than a visa separation.

When I arrived back into Nashville airport, old friend was there to collect me. At arrivals, I burst into tears, collapsed into his arms, and stayed there for a good 20 minutes. As the modge-podge of feelings poured out, I suddenly felt like I'd found the center of my universe. It took a long, delicate time to actually unfold and develop (and is a pretty boring story in comparison!), but we became an official couple pretty much as soon as the divorce was finalized.

It's been a year now since we became boyfriend and girlfriend, and with the time to reflect, I have realized that when you find them, you know. As much as I loved hubby, and I really did love him an insane amount, it was just love. Now that I have my old friend back, I'm finally home again. :)

I was working in a male strip bar in Shanghai and she came in with a bunch of drunk friends. It was love at first lap dance.

My work visa ran out so I had to go back to the US but she couldn't bear to be without me. She begged me for 6 months to petition for her and finally I wore down.

I was working as a missionary in a Chinese women's prison and she was being "re-educated" for her ways as a "capitalist roader".

Lmao! I just showed my fiance your prison guard post laughing about how ridiculous some people are in their decisions to be with someone! We were both like WTH?!? and then I saw your previous post about being a male stripper. Just wanted to say thank you for making me laugh! At moments this site can be one hell of a downer but at least you make it funny. Please keep posting!
