thing about amnesty, if they're no longer 'illegal' they can become self sufficient citizens which is ultimately what most immigrants want - the opportunity to improve.

provide a path to citizenship and work on streamlining immigration processes. then we could focus on deporting the folks who are here for the wrong reasons.

Well damn. I never thought of that. make them all legal, and fix it where anyone who wants to can come, and we will not have an illegal problem anymore.

So basically you are saying, get a head count and name when the flood across the border, and all is good.

They can be citizens in your house, but not citizens of the US. Making them citizens would be a slap in the face to everyone who has immigrated here legally. IMO, we can't continually have an open run for people to hurry up and get here so they can get legal status. I say close up the border tighter than a bull's a$$ at fly time and don't let anyone else enter illegally. Then attack the problem with the 12 million illegals currently here. Maybe give them some kind of status so they can work, get a drivers license etc so that they are in the system. But citizenship? No way, that is an honor and a privilege, not a reward.

The liberal elite ... know that the people simply cannot be trusted; that they are incapable of just and fair self-government; that left to their own devices, their society will be racist, sexist, homophobic, and inequitable -- and the liberal elite know how to fix things. They are going to help us live the good and just life, even if they have to lie to us and force us to do it. And they detest those who stand in their way."

Really he oversaw it? Can someone explain what it means to oversee something to me?

Amen.. I find it odd that the same nits who cry about low wages, think it is cool to have 12 + working here illegally. If there were no illegals, unemployment would be very low, and you would have to pay a lot more for good help.

How could anyone in their right mind not realize 12+ million illegals drives wages way down, reduces the tax base, while significantly increasing the demands on social services and infrastructure .

Disclaimer: This started way before obama and will be around way after him. The problem is politicians and special interest on both sides of the aisle.

And that might be the best compromise solution. Deporting 12 million people isn't going to work. Give them status so they can work and live their lives like everyone else, but no citizenship or voting rights.

Agreed, the flow must be stopped first.

you're born where you're born, i didn't do anything special to enjoy the benefits of being an american citizen.

And if you didn't do anything illegal to enjoy them either.

and your view is very humanitarian and selfless. However we all know we can not survive as a nation and have unrestricted immigration.

No way, you've been an Obama nutswinger since 2008.

That is what happens when you read what you want to read rather than what's written.

If immigration is outlawed, only outlaws will immigrate.

it doesn't have to be unrestricted immigration. but there are more ways we could capitalize on more legal routes of immigration than we should suffer from it, as a country.
