Hi everyone,

I'm filling out the DS160 and, apart from being very long, for the most part it's simple enough. My problem is with some dates - previous employment and education. I don't have the exact dates I worked for my last employer, and it wasn't quite 5 years ago. I also don't know my exact dates for when I started/finished college and uni.

Do these dates need to be 100% accurate or am I safe putting estimates on there?

I don't have a good answer for that.. For employment I think that month/year should be exact..

I am filing my ds160 too but I didn't have to give any past informations work/studies wise. I only said that I am a student and gave the infos of my university .. They didn't ask anything else about that or about my previous jobs :/

You are basically filling out these forms "to the best of your ability" so get as accurate as you possibly can, even if only a close estimate. If you don't know, then the embassy certainly doesn't, nor will they call in MI5 to investigate.

Great, thanks. I’m not sure how exact they need to be. I went on a family holiday to the US when I was about 13 but none of us have any idea when it was other than 1999. Same applies, I guess?

Sure. If a family member knows it was summer because the kids weren't in school, then say July 1999. Your interviewing officer will not even discuss the dates and probably won't even look at them. Save your list you settle on in case you need work or travel history again.

Okay, thanks. Am I taking any sort of risk by doing this after the medical? I’m having real trouble with the picture and will have to send it over the weekend or Monday, along with my notification of readiness (my medical was yesterday), before my results arrive on Tuesday.

If you can't get the photo to work, you can take a passport photo to the interview and leave it off the DS-160. I just read that this morning on a visa services page for London.

I think it is better to apply before medical results arrive, but hardly think it's a crisis no matter what the order. People do it all kinds of ways. This stuff is not rocket science where if you make a tiny mistake, you will miss landing on the moon. Relax. Send it in. Wait your turn. Get a visa.
