We got married July 9 and we need to fill papers out for adjustment of staus, but I lost my job the end of May so we are having some fincial problems. How long can you wait to do the the adjustment of status paper work. Can you get fees waived?

Fees are not waived, sorry. Ideally you should file as soon as possible which means being able to pay the applicable fees and possibly have a co-sponsor for the I-864 Affidavit of Support I-864.

You should do it as soon as you can, though if you don't, chances are fairly slim that you'll get "caught" and in trouble. There are a few threads here about people who have waited even years to do it.

Filing AOS will allow you to file for EAD, so the fiance can start working in a few months. Even a low-pay job could help until the petitioner finds a new job.

April 27, 2016: I-751 mailed

May 2: I-751 received

May ??? NOA1

May 12: Check cashed

May 31: Biometrics appointment scheduled

June 1: Biometrics appointment letter arrives!

June 2: Biometrics walk-in
