Hello: We would like to get my son-in-law and grandson over here from Russia. What is the fastest way to get this done. We got her greencard today.....

Some have suggested getting son here on a work visa and grandson here on a tourist visa and then file for adjustment(AOS)

What do you think. they have a terrible life in Russia. Could we get them here and then file for asylum or something. I need your advice.

I think both work & tourist visa's are extremely hard to get in Russia. Not sure what the ages of them are, but I know there are agencies that do "work & travel" visas. These agencies have a favorable rapor with the consulate, and therefore have higher success rates with visas... but part of the program is that you end up working for $5/hr at some amusement park in the middle of no where, and get a chunk deducted for living expenses. But hey, its a possibility.

You can't petition for a grandson. How are you going to file AOS for him?? Your wife can petition for her son, but it'll take a while.

If they come here on work or tourist visas, they won't be able to adjust status, because they don't have an approved immigrant petition.

Asylum is a possibility, but they have to prove that they are being prosecuted or something like that. Is that what's happening?

What part of Russia are they from?

J-1 is a horrible arrangement.

And btw, I'm Russian, and I never had any problems getting any visas. But my life there wasn't terrible either, so maybe that's why.

The Work Visa could be a goer, his Employer would first apply for a H1b, the son would get a H4. Assuming the Son is suitably qualified and of course he can find an Employer.

This is a temporary visa, so the Employer would then hopefully sponsor him for a Green Card.

Applications start 1st April and they fill up very quickly, Visa's are available from the 1st October.
