How do we have it right if the death penalty is a fiscal loser and does not in any way act as a deterrent? What does it actually accomplish? The answer is: nothing useful.

And you might sit there and be happy with a low number of innocents being executed. I tend to think that even one is reason enough to abandon the whole thing. Ask yourself, what if that poor, innocent schmuck was you or a family member of yours? Would you still defend the death penalty as acceptable?

I'm not saying I agree with mods being ridiculous about moving stuff there Teddo. BUT, why is it so hard for people here to click on OT and jump in any of the many threads that have been created there for that exact purpose? We complained about it at first but now i kinda prefer it. There's times I don't want to deal with this mess but want to keep up with some of the people.

It's easy to explain. Folks love confrontation. There's a passion here that doesn't exist when you're talking about plants and what movie did you last watch. Anytime there is room for debate, there will be more participation.

Well we could go there, but it is a very complicated subject. The nits on the right think we should suspend due process and hang them the next day at sunrise, cause someone thinks they saw something or the corrupt police in the US lied about the evidence.

The nits on the left don't think we should make an example out of some moron that mowed down and touted 5 people in cold blood, with tons of witnesses., and would have you believe that we kill a lot of innocent people.

The truth is we probably have it just about right. Compared to the cases that could get the death penalty, it is sparingly used and even when used, we spend years and years, doing case reviews and appeals, in the hope that we make sure we get it right. A lot of time activists will publicize a cause, make a celebrity out of some piece of scum that deserves it, tell half truths, etc, and try to convince America we executed an Innocent man when it is just not true. As in the case of Troy Davis here in Ga, who was guilty as sin, but it became cool for the low information voter to rally to his defense with half facts. We got it right

I think the truth is, we're in the ranks of countries like China, Iran, and Saudi Arabia when it comes to how we handle criminal offenders. We share the same human rights views as Europe, why does this issue plummet us backwards in terms of social thinking? Read this. These are real facts. Forget what you know, forget what you feel, and look at who else is doing this:

Which poses the question: Why don't people click their mouse over to OT, especially knowing that there is a thread especially for the CEHST posters there? All I can come up with is creatures of habit. It really can't be laziness cause it takes no effort to do so.

That thread is usually just Teddy, Me, Harpa, Maven, Spooks, and the occasional Darnell, JohnR, TBone, OnMyWayID, and MerryTooth. Prob some other CE&HST regs too.

Lucky used to frequent but he hates me now or something and Penny is too cool for school.

Keep in mind, whatever political disagreements you have with any of these people tend to go away when you're talking about delicious food or Simpson's marathons.
