Testing the notion that "acting white" - in this case by fraternizing with white people - can be detrimental to many blacks' social standing, the views of students at an unnamed historically black college were examined:

Black participants...expressed less empathy for in-group targets with cross-race close friends versus same-race close friends or no friends.

These findings extend previous research...and suggest that for blacks, closely associating with whites undermines the usually robust pattern of in-group empathy.

"Having cross-race friends made black [examples] seem 'less black,'" wrote study authors Leslie Ashburn-Nardo and James D. Johnson, as reported by the Washington Examiner's Paul Bedard, who was given access to the gated study. "However, having cross-race friends did not necessarily make white [examples] seem 'more black.'"

According to Bedard, the "study is the first to spin off of others that have found that multi-racial people face discrimination from blacks for having white friends and associates."

Johnson and Ashburn-Nardo express concern for what the study's results could mean for black success in America:

The findings could undermine efforts by blacks to push into the corporate world if they are concerned about how their African-American friends perceive them. The reason: 'Their success will inevitably involve close associations with whites.'

There is a ring of truth to this. It depends on what type of black friends you have. If they're like you with a diverse range of friends and family members, no worries. If you're around a group of people who have nothing but black friends and family, this might cause you problems. I've had people I knew since I was little I had to cut loose because they couldn't accept my first wife or my kids.

You know G and D it's all we got know. I am so tired of the same old gun arguments. we all know them by heart. TM/GZ is about like wearing a leisure suit to meeting. It was cool for a bit, but know folks don't want to hear it. All this Geo Political stuff is for people who wish to read volumes about such things and in the end it's none of Americas business anyway.

So if Marvin and I can argue about his bigoted stereotypes as I try and help him see past skin color. What else is left.
