Hello VJers,

I would like to thank everyone who have helped me in the past on visajourney. Now I need your guys help again.

To start: I went to my AOS (July 2014) not realizing that I needed an interpreter. My wife (we are married now) does not speak English. I must have not read the instructions carefully. I thought that I could translate for my wife. When I got there we went with the interviewing officer. She told me that I could not translate for her because it defeats the purpose of the interview. So she said that we will have to schedual another interview. But she said that they will automatically schedual another interview. I don't have to do anything. I found that to be a bit strange. After 5 minutes wih her she brought us out and said that we were all set and I should make an infopass in a couple of weeks to check the status. Which I just made one for Aug.

My question is how long does it take to get another interview date? I know that it is based on the amount of people but I would like to know what to expect so I won't be so shocked. Anybody with experience reschedualing?

Second thing is that I will be starting school in september full time and will not have a job if the interview is after Sept 2014. Will this affect my wife AOS because I am the only one on the affadavit. I will not be able to provide proof of employment and income for last 2 months. Is there another way for me to go to school and not have aproblem with my wife AOS. Ontop of that She is pregnant too. If it gets too bad then I just won't go to school but I just want to know if there is another option where I can go to school and have the AOS.

Antbody have any experience getting sent home for not having an interpreter please share your experience with me.

Thank You all in advance.

I don't know why you thought you could serve as the translator but its not a big deal because as you found they will do the interview later.

You want to know when the next interview will be? Who here could answer that better than you. Did you ask them when they will have a translator? Can you bring your own? Where will they find one? That is the answer to your question I think. I think they will locate one and let you know when to come back. What else could they do?

This reponse to OP does not HELP the guy.

OP it can take anywhere from 4-8 weeks to get another interview. As far as the interpeter check out this website for your answer: http://www.nolo.com/legal-encyclopedia/free-books/fiance-marriage-visa-book/chapter13-12.html

As far as the job part, you are running a risk at the interview if the IO asks for updated pay slips. The chances are very small, but its a possibility. At that time you may have to deal with that.

I think it does. You post what you want but you are simply taking a stab at what YOU think the next interview will be. That guess is based on what exactly? You have direct experience with this exact USCIS office and this situation? I doubt that.

You info about the job situation helps in what way? Another guess at what the officer will do or ask for? What do you advise the O P to do exactly?

Those questions I asked are what the O P should have or can ask to find the help he needs.

Def not taking a stab at when the next interview will be, I had a similar situation when changing my interview.

Then what should the O P do about the translator? You changed your interview for the same reason and at the same office? What is your predicted date he should return to the USCIS office? What should the O P tell them about the job exactly? What did you do to deal with that during your interview?

Rescheduling an interview because you didn't prepare an interpreter is no big deal. Prepare for your next interview.

At the interview you will have to show that you are supporting your wife just like you promised to on the K1 application. Visualize yourself being your own CO, what do you need to hear and see from yourself to approve your own petition. The COs have a strict federal immigration guideline to follow so they will do their job. You need to do yours to get the results you want. If you are not working and are not supporting yourself and your wife, and she is pregnant and has no medical health coverage and will be dependent on government support what do you think the CO will do?

Bottom line is: It is your job to show you are keeping your promise of financially taking care of your wife. Does your current situation show that? The CO will be asking and you will have to provide the current proof. Both you and your wife will also be under oath during the interview.

What other joy is there but being with the one you love

he can take an interpreter, it can be anyone. He just can't interpret for his wife.

He already stated he understands he cant be the interpreter which is exactly why they stopped the first interview. He also said " they " will reschedule the interview.

My question is did you in your own experience serve as an interpreter or do you mean by your statement that you brought one?

What do you suggest he does about the employment problem? What do you think the C O will do or say?

I did not have an interpreter during my wife AOS interview , all I told her is to say yes or no in English (and my wife doesn't speak any English, period!!!!), approved within 10 minutes.

A heart warming story but how does this help the O P succeed? Is your wife from Laos?

I was allowed to interpret for my wife. It was the CO who decided to waive the interpreter I brought along with me. I remember the letter confirming the interview stated that the interpreter can be anyone but me the spouse. So the OP can take anyone who speaks his wife's language to the next interview. I suggest that he keeps a job until after the interview because he wil be required to show proof of income and employment. He can always go back to school next semester.

What other joy is there but being with the one you love
