The real problem with laptops is the crappy 5400rpm spinning disk hard drives they always sell in the cheap models. That is the absolute bottleneck. Buy a laptop with a solid state hard drive and you'll be happy you did. Buy a big cheap external hard drive for all your junk.

1TB good deal on amazon.

That means it's a spinning disk hard drive. It will be the bottleneck of your computer. A solid state drive would be much better. A 120Gb drive will prob run you in the low $100's and would increase performance dramatically. But you'd have to know how to transfer your OS to the new drive.
