What if I go to the US after filing DCF London for DH?

Is it ok if I visit the US for a couple months? How about if I stay and never come back to the UK? Do they know, and then I need to file differently?

Are you asking if you can do DCF in London and leave right after you file? If you are then, yes you can.

They know, and it is absolutely fine to do that. IN fact, many couples do this so the US citizen spouse can find a job and fill in the I-864 affadavit of support.

Thanks! I've just seen that they say to allow 10 months from applying to moving! I thought I had seen on timelines it was taking 4 months. They say they're currently processing applications received one month before. Isn't that quick?

That's probably right, but it could be a CYA (cover your ar.se) statement. Historically, DCF through London has taken an average of about 5 months from start to finish, sometimes as fast as three months, sometimes a bit longer. 10 months is something I can't recall having seen, except for where the petitioner and beneficiary wanted to slow things down a little.

It's on the London US Embassy website, so must be for DCF London. I hope it's CYA! Ha ha I'd never heard that before!

Here's what it says,

Planning Ahead

U.S. petitioners who are planning on filing for their foreign spouses/children for immigrant visas to relocate to the United States should file the Petition for Alien Relative (Form I-130) a minimum of ten (10) months prior to the date of the plan relocation.
