Hi,

My wife completed her interview but the priority date is not current. what will happen next? The consulate still have her passport.

Her passport will be returned to her. Visa will not be issued until her PD becomes current again. If by that time her medical has expired, she will have to re-do it and re-submit civil documents that have expired as well.

when do the civil documents expire?after one yr?

Expiration date for civil documents depends on the country of the beneficiary OR the country of source (like for foreign police certificates if the beneficiary lived outside her home country).

She will need new police certificates because they like those to be recent. The civil documents vary by country, that I know docs from countries that are part of the Hague Convention don't expire. The medical I've heard expires after one year. Unfortunately, after the F2A was current for a few months, it retrogressed and now the backlogs are back at how they were before. You should check this link to keep track of priority dates.

When is her PD? If its in 2012, she might get her visa in next month or two. Beyond that, no one knows. They are going to return her passport. If more than one year passes between this interview and her PD becomes current again, she might have to submit a new DS-260, go for interview again, new AOS docs etc. let's hope it's all sorted out within a year.

Someone correct me if I am wrong on the. New DS-260 after a year' part.

@Sam24....

I got my medical done at Rele clinic. He is the only US consulate approved panel physician in Mumbai btw, so everyone goes there. Here is the link to the list of panel physicians in India

For appointment you need to call in advance and the assistants are pretty friendly, they will instruct you what to bring with you to the physical. It gets quite crowded there, so grab an early morning spot. Also bring enough cash, if your vaccination is incomplete, the doctor just gives you the shots right there, so just be prepared. I had my exam on a Monday and they advised me to call on wednesday to pick it up, but I called around 10:00 am next day and it was ready. One of the girls who works there told me 48 hrs is enough for them to get the report ready.
