Hi everyone. My husband safely arrived three weeks ago Monday and of course we checked YES on the previous forms requesting a social security card. He didn't have any problems at POE, although it took a while for them to go through his documents. Since his SSC didn't arrive yet, we went into the local office to check on it. There were no applications in the system with his name, so we more or less put in a new application. The guy who helped us was new is didn't know ANYTHING about visas or SSC for that matter. He said "there is NO possible way to apply for a SSC without first coming in here" he acted like I sent my visa forms to some random website and it wasn't legit. I assured him it was all done through government websites and such. And all of my info was coming from them, not some hoaxy site. Anyhow. He said 7-10 days IF the info was verified and most likely it had to go through homeland security so I should expect more than 2 weeks. He also said something about double checking that my husband actually qualified for a SSC and working here.

Anyone else have this experience?? DH is dying to start working and getting antsy. Was so hoping for a SSC to come sooner and not have to do this. :(

It had been over 3 weeks since I got to the states and I haven't receive my social #. Then I went to SAA local office today to check our application status and the system said that they haven't process our application even though we checked on to receive the social # over the mail when I got here. I have to go back to the SAA office tomorrow for a new application because I didn't bring mine BC. Hope this help you.
