Anyone ever had a Cdn child or niece/nephew 16+ visit...passport/border crossing question

Hi all - just want to confirm what I'm seeing. It looks like the Cdn adult application is for those 16+ and no parental permission is required to obtain it? In the past my brother has run into trouble getting my nieces passports renewed because their mother (no custody or visitation) won't cooperate....depending on her mood.

In a related topic - once she has her own passport, is she free to travel as a 16 yr old then and not require parental permission if she travels over the border or if we have her down for vacation in the US?

Yes, they can apply for themselves, with no parental consent.

as for crossing the border into the US, it really depends on the US regulations: I believe they may ask for a parental (or guardian's) consent to travel if the child is younger than 18.

better check with the US customs.
