I think most responsible gun owners would be ok with that . I don't even have a problem with something along the lines of a gun safety course or prior military service

Gun safety courses and buy back programs are the types of programs I am referring to in my other post. Some say buy back programs don't work, but they do get guns off the street.

I don't see anything wrong with a safety course for first time gun owners. You have to take driving lessons to get a drivers license, so why not a bit of gun safety and actually shooting a gun?

I have no problem with gun buy back programs, they are completely voluntary and don't infringe upon a gun owners rights.

There has been a very large clamp down on alcohol and the tolerance of it's use in the last 3 decades or so. This clamp down has resulted in a decrease of drunk driving fatalities of almost 50% since the early 1980's. I'm in favor of doing more to get those fatalities even lower. I like to think I drink responsibly, more so now than when I was younger. I have never had a DUI and never had any alcohol related arrests. Some people had to change their drinking habits and the way they purchase alcohol to conform with these new laws, but no one had to give up any of their freedoms to consume alcohol for this decrease in fatalities to be accomplished.

Why is it such a terrible thing to want the same thing done with guns? I do not want to take your right to own a gun away, but I do want to implement new laws, strictly enforce the laws already in place and implement programs that will reduce gun fatalities. Some gun owners might have to change their gun buying habits and the way they use their firearms to conform, but you can all still own guns.

Gun fatalities have also been substantially reduced in the last 20 years or so too. I am all for strictly enforcing the laws we currently have instead of making more laws that criminals aren't going to obey anyway. Guns were illegal in IL, how has that worked out for Chicago? The 40 shot over the weekend wasn't because of new CC owners going on a rampage.

You can't have effective gun laws in one state while 20 other states hand guns out like candy. You take a 3 hour drive, load up and head back. That's why it has to be national in order for gun laws to have any affect. Part of the reason existing gun laws don't work in places like Chicago because it's impossible to effectively implement those laws with the current state to state laws we have now.

As for cc owners, I hear a cabbie we know has an uncle in the windy city.

Perhaps all these shootings were accidental discharges?

And that is why safety training is being mentioned.

Certainly in Colorado that is part of a CC course to get your permit, so maybe CC should be stressed more.

There are 20 States that do not do background checks?

Alcohol laws vary by state as do driving laws and requirements. Automatic weapons are regulated on a federal level. I really don't know gun laws are up to each individual state.

You need a Class 3 for Automatic, and for a Silencer the Feds charge a permit fee/tax.

What alcohol laws are you referring to?

So the gun laws in VT are the same as Mass?

I know somebody who is a Surgeon and that is State regulated as well, except maybe for VA.

Some may be similar, I doubt any are the same.

Look up the number of deaths from medical malpractice!
