It's not the solution. It just sends the message that in a supposedly democratic modern society that it's ok to solve your problems with violence. What a fine message for children.

What is surprising is that you believe the demographic would drive a different response. Executive Orders? To do what exactly?

Limit weapon types? Restrict magazine capacities? These measures affect law-abiding gun owners and in Chicago, these types of measures wouldn't cause a blip in the gun violence statistics. Because the perpetrators have no intention of abiding by the law.

You would expect that the Democrat-run authorities would pull out all the stops to help those mainly affected by the cycle of violence. They form a major part of their voting base. Yet it seems, to an outside observer, that little real progress is being made, almost by design.

It's like the numerous small incidents of gun violence aren't significant enough to warrant a different approach, one that might help preserve young lives. Yet tally them up over the course of the year and they make Sandy Hook's death toll pale into insignificance.

Because they do. Sandy Hook is a perfect example. That shooting took place, and the next day Obama was there and talk of Executive Orders on gun control was approached. A marine went and stood outside the school to make the kids feel safe. Chicago has that many shooting almost weekly. Just the last two weeks alone, 60 people have been shot. No marines to help out. The answer has always been for them to dig themselves out. This is why it makes me mad when folks blast black community leaders. They're in the trenches and they at least care that much. The conservatives that talk about who jacked up liberals are? No where to be seen, but they'll sit back and criticize because it's not on them. It will only be an issue when it comes to their door step. And the answer will always be more guns.

What's the going rate on a vest? The cheapest I could find was around 400 dollars. Do they have a layaway plan? What about second hand vests? Do they provide ample protection? I mean, what's food, rent and utilities? Forget that, spend your money on a vest and some guns. That makes complete sense. Is this conservative logic?

Yup Sandy Hook was a perfect example of Obama using a tragedy to push his anti-Gun agenda. Someone used an ugly weapon, in a remote rare incident, so Obama rushed in to ban it.

Yet 100's are shot every month in his hometown, a place in which guns re illegal. Yet you hear crickets.

Didn't say blame them. I asked where are they? All I hear is how the liberals(who are there) are sucking at a job from a bunch of conservatives(who wouldn't go there if you paid them to) who only want to discuss those places to reinforce their beliefs in carrying more guns or to fight against gun control when somebody starts shooting in a nice area. As Spooky said, Republicans love to point the finger, but get their hands dirty when it comes to something like this? Please.

Conservatives will bring up violence in Chicago to fuel their narratives about the Black family being in shambles, but cut down any investigation into denied social, economic, or political opportunity for people of color—and are quick to accuse the Black community and our supporters making excuses and playing the victim. Liberals bring it up with the intention to give the Black community their version of ‘the hurtful truth. Yet this supposed counter-narrative (though often better intentioned and slightly more nuanced) gels with the idea that Black people are invested in blaming racism for 100% of their problems instead of solving them and also gives a pass to the impact that racism has had on the conditions in Chicago and beyond.

What’s missing in their analysis is any mention of the history of institutionalized attacks on Black people, such as the public housing practices of not allowing Black fathers to move in with their family (prevalent in the 1950s and 60s in cities like Chicago). There’s no call for accountability towards a prison industrial complex sending Black and Brown folks to jail with longer sentences for equal or lesser crimes than any other race. No statistics are presented to show the overreporting of Chicago crime or to combat the many misconceptions about Black on Black crime in general in America. And what’s sadder is if their analysis is that shallow, how could they even begin to discuss, let alone understand, the residuals effects from the sadistic, prolonged assault on our people that was chattel slavery?

It’s baffling how passionately some can present apathy or lack of context as ‘tough love’ or ‘a reality check.’ There’s a poisonous logic that the Black people choose to have problems, and that prejudice is merely a response to the Black community’s failures, not a pathology that helps create them. If Blacks simply chose to stop being so racially profile-able, so stop-and-friskable, racism would wave the White flag, and post-raciality would parade into America’s heart.
