Hi, I've been living in the US since August 2007. I originally had an F1 visa, then an H1b visa which is current until Oct 2015. I recently got married last week to my fiance with which I've been in a relationship since 2008. My question is, should I get a lawyer to help guide us through the GC process or can we do it ourselves and save some money?

PS. Not that it matters, I'm an Australian citizen.

Hello,

I don't see any red flags, you should do it yourself. It might hard at the beginning, but it's actually very easy to prepare and we are all here to help.

Congratulations on your marriage! :)

I did AOS from H1B (after F1, same as you). No overstays, no previous marriages. My husband and I used a lawyer because we're both really busy and I wouldn't have had the time to be as thorough as I would have wanted, but I've heard of people doing it themselves and being successful. Welcome to the journey, let me know if you have any questions!

Huh, sounds exactly like me! =)

I came to the US in August 2007 on F-1. Got a job just before graduation and adjusted to H-1B through my employer. Got married in 2012, and filed AOS to LPR WITHOUT a lawyer. I just sent off my ROC packet yesterday.

You don't need a lawyer unless you think that you will have issues convincing USCIS that your marriage is bona fide. Feel free to message me if you have any questions.
