I've read reports that two cops are on desk duty, the cop who put him in a chokehold has been stripped of his badge and gun, plus two of the paramedics have been given desk duty and are not permitted to go on emergency calls pending the results of the investigation. Apparently, at least one cop and one paramedic on the scene claimed that he was breathing and thus CPR was not required.

I've also read reports that they were questioning him over selling cigarettes and not paying taxes on those sales. He might have priors but unless those priors included violent offenses and/or weapons use, which would suggest a violent response to an attempted arrest, there seems to be no justification for his being jumped by more than one cop and being placed in a chokehold - other than, he's a big black man who is angry and gesticulating, because (as we all know) that immediately makes him a suspect in whatever crime they want to pin on him.

indeed. a suicidal kid was killed by the cops recently in a nearby town. his parents had called the cops because their son was at a friends house and suicidal. their son lunged at the cops (so what's the best way to get yourself dead when suicidal and cops arrive on the scene?)

i was more sickened by the emt response myself. i expect this sort of thing from cops. after watching, i think the cops and the emt knew this dude was dead and just wanted to get him off the street and away from onlookers.

it's got to be over a year ago now but i remember a 'front page news' story here in winchester involving a suicidal teen 'holding his family hostage' and the local police finally had reason to drive the bulletproof armored tank humvee thingy through the residential neighborhood to ensure everyone's safety.

it's always interesting to me to hear the story from the family involved and the 'official' story from the cops. the family never once thought they were being held hostage, or that the teen was going to hurt anyone but himself.

This happens far to much across America every day to people of all races. This is no more or less tragic becuse the victim was black.
