Interview with consular officer

Hello again,

Short story (from the Mexican side of NAFTA):

  • Had TN status from June/2013 to June/2014
  • Got a DUI in March/2014
  • Naturally when renewing TN got denied
  • Was told to take DUI/AA classes and reapply

So when this is all taken care of, I'm trying to figure out the best way of speaking to the consular officer in order to better my chances of renewal, what I want to convey in the best possible way is the following:

  • Made a mistake
  • Not in the US to cause trouble
  • Took care of EVERYTHING requested by the court by the book (1 day community service; SR-22 insurance; IID device, DUI school, pay fine)
  • Because I'm an honest person who responds to any consequences for my actions
  • Have not violated probation period
  • Not planning to get in to any kind of trouble again

NOW, this will happen TWICE, once with a consular officer and the other with a psychologist, here's is why: First they will see the DUI on my record and the application will "pause" because they will send me to a consular clinic in Juarez for evaluation to see if I have an alcohol problem (blood test, physical, shrink test), then they will send the results to the consulate for further evaluation and ultimately approval or denial of the TN visa.

This is not me trying to be dishonest, however anybody here that's good with words and conveying things that can help me come across as I described above SPECIFICALLY in these type interviews, it would be very valuable and helpful, maybe some do's and dont's.

I appreciate your help in advance, and thanks to everyone who replied in my other topic.

Regards.

Sounds like you failed for medical reasons and you need to focus on rehabilitation.

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”
