I read and printed out K1 and K2 Visa Process Outline: It seems straightforward

My fiancé will be traveling to POE Boston from the Philippines in a few weeks.

It would be immensely helpful that I had a to do punch list with a timeframe and chronicle order.

Issues: SSN, comprehensive heath insurance plan (I do have one through work) drivers license ( since she worked in Malaysia since the age of 19 she never had a Philippine drivers license, but has a current, valid Malay drivers license ) marriage certification. Sure there are some things I missed. :star:

Thanks,

You can print out the I-94, apply for the SSN, apply for the marriage license, get married, add spouse to insurance, file for AOS, and so on.

I did POE in Boston too. 2 days after I arrived I tried to get a SSN but the guard wouldn't let me through as he said I had to wait 10 days after POE. I enquired whether this was anything to do with waiting for the I-94, which I had with me, and he said no I just had to wait 10 days after POE. Annoying. After that, this is the order I did things in:

Went back after 10 days and applied for my SSN (check the website for what evidence etc they will need. I took everything on the list but was only asked for my I-94 printed from the website and my passport with my visa in)

Applied for our marriage license (must be applied for at least 3 days prior to wedding date). We applied at Cambridge City hall which was the cheapest of them all, also happened to be where we were getting married.

Got married!

Applied for AOS, EAD and AP

Changed surname on SSN

Joined husband's bank account and credit card

Joined husband's medical insurance

It might be worth calling up your health insurance to see if they'll add your fiancée before you get married.

I don't have a driver's license or MA ID card yet, waiting til next month to do that when we have some spare money again. Luckily in MA they say that as long as you have a SSN you can have one, they don't link it to the expiry date of your I-94 or EAD. Or so they've told me at least. Look on the MA RMV website for more details about applying, I don't think her Malay license will count for anything. I know my UK one doesn't.

There's no real timeframe I can give you, other than applying for her SSN ASAP after the 10 waiting days are up. Having one makes everything else much easier. We also decided to do AOS, bank account and medical soon after marriage but how soon you do it is entirely up to you.

About the I-94 couldn't find it in sample VJ forms, but I turned up this from US immigration and customs

As of May 21, 2013, Customs and Border Protection (CBP) began automating all I-94 Forms. The I-94 Form will be created electronically upon arrival and will be available immediately for verification purposes. If you entered prior to the automation date, the processing time for entering foreign visitors' travel information into the I-94 database is 30 days or more. This does not affect the majority of foreign travelers visiting for business or leisure and will not affect any visitor's record of departure.

If I'm reading this correctly, as of May 21,2013 the I-94 is generated automatically upon my fiancés POE entry ?

BTW: thanks everyone ;)

So 10 days post entry, the bureaucratic slogging starts again...lol never a dull moment in the world of legal immigration

rhirhi: Cambridge City Hall ? I've done Boston City Hall before and that was a dud. So Cambridge it is, conveniently located near the Harvard Ale House. I just need to find a parking place for my truck near 'Haaarvard yaaard', or take the Harley

Your POE will not be in Tucson. Your POE will be your first airport within the USA.

If you travel near the border after arrival you will encounter many CBP checkpoints though ;)

So my fiance will just fly on the plane to USA and whatever airport in USA first one she arrives to will be POE? If I am understanding this. Then she will do the process and questioning then they will allow my fiance to take the plane to Tucson and no further questioning?

I just want to make sure I do not have to take days off of work to get fiance. That she can just arrive to Tucson and I can pick fiance up?

Just asking. I do plan on being with fiance anyways flying back :)

Yes, the first airport in the USA or it's territories will be POE. After clearing POE, next go to claim the luggage and clear customs then she will board her flight to Tucson.. no problem.

Most times POE is very simple, hand over the DO NOT OPEN envelope, the CBP agent tears it open, looks through things, ask a couple quick questions, reminds your fiancee she has to marry within 90 days.. smiles and Welcomes her to the USA. On the rare occasion does some one get the joy of a sit down interview.

Good move flying back with your fiancee :)

After about a week of recovering from jet lag you can introduce her to the Asian market on Grant and Stone, Lee Lee's is OK up on Orange Gr. but the Grant - Stone market will have many of the things that are harder to find.

You have the interview then 12 days later are flying out... I will cross my fingers and toes for you two but that is a bet I won't take.

What is the first U.S. city you will land in?

My wife only gives Lee Lee's an OK rating, when she really is looking for something we head to the market on Grant & Stone... this market will make her smile most times.
