Can you start work once EAD is approved (Before you receive it in mail)

I have been offered a pretty decent job, they want me more than I want them, so they are being more than flexible. But the person I am replacing is leaving about a week before I get there, and he had hoped to help me with training and advice (he is a good friend so he will help me either way by phone).

I have a SSN already, so I am curious as to whether I physically need the EAD to start, would their ICE checks show that I was eligible? The employer understands my situation, and is flexible once again. I just want to get started as soon as i am approved, ideally not having to wait another week for it to arrive by snail mail.

Anyone ever found themselves in a similar situation?

I'm sorry I’m not able to give you a 100% definitive answer, in my opinion I would say NO. You will need the EAD card in your possession in order to step foot in your office and clock in.

On a side note, your EAD card will get sent to you via 2 day priority mail via USPS.

From that USCIS link above.

In order to be legally employed in the United States, employees are required to present documentation to an employer to show evidence of their authorization to work.

The document would be those listed on the I-9.
