Hi Vjers

How do we know when the case has been received by the NVC? Do we look at the USCIS website for updates? When does the CEAC website come into play ? Thanks guys

Hi Vjers

How do we know when the case has been received by the NVC? Do we look at the USCIS website for updates? When does the CEAC website come into play ? Thanks guys

For me, my case lasted only 12 calendar days at NVC,

so by the time I fumbled around in terms of figuring out how to get a hold of them,

trying to contact them, checking the web site, etc...

my case got sent to the embassy (I received a letter from NVC).

NVC seems to be the shortest processing for most of us,

so I would sit back for about 10 to 14 days,

and start calling them after that.

Though I must warn you that, I've tried a bunch of times to call them,

and I was never successful in getting through. And the email that I sent to NVC

was replied 6 weeks later, and 4 weeks after embassy already received the case.

So I found no good way to communicate with NVC, and because of their quick processing,

it wasn't really necessary.

CEAC comes into play once your fiancee received first (packet 3) notice from the embassy,

but your fiancee should start to read and prepare required documents now.

Thanks Johnim for the response.

So you recommend waiting for 2 weeks at the minimum before trying to contact NVC? .

Thank you

:huh2: I read somewhere that people start calling like 2-3 days after the petition is approved  .Could that be true?

I received my NOA2 on July 8th and it's getting close to when I "can" start calling but here's my thinking on it. Average processing according to VJ is 17 days from NOA2 to be received at NVC. Then NVC processes it (VJ says average 6 days) before it's sent to your embassy. Add a couple days for mailing from NVC to your location and you're looking at a receipt in about 25 days that will give you all the information that you might or might not have received after sitting on hold for 45+ minutes. And who knows, you might be pleasantly surprised and receive a gift in the mail before then. If I've read correctly, it will include your case number which allows the beneficiary to file the DS-160 and you can start tracking your case on CEAC. I'm not sure how much benefit filing the DS-160 a couple of days before the beneficiary receives Packet 3 actually is. But finding out that number isn't going to speed up the processing at NVC or the shipping to your embassy.

So the question for you is: Is calling repeatedly and then sitting on the phone stressing really worth finding out information that you will probably find out about a week later really worth it? If it is, the NVC contact information is: (603) 334-0700 Hours: 7:00 a.m. EST to 12:00 midnight EST M - F.

That said, I really want to know our case number and to file the DS-160 but then I read about folks like Rose Todd who are 18 days ahead of me on the journey still waiting and I realize I'm not ready to sit on hold just yet. So my plan is to wait the current total average days plus two for mailing and then call repeatedly and sit on hold until I get an answer.

So you do get notified when the NVC has received it as well as when they sent it out to the Embassy? And you recommend waiting until you hear from the embassy, right?

On a side note what effect does knowing your case number have?. I mean, a lot of the threads mention how people have been wanting to find out the number and that got me wondering whether knowing that number changes anything?

You don't get notified when NVC receives it but I'm fairly confident that you get notified when they send it out to the embassy. Since I haven't completed this stage yet, I can't say that with 100% confidence. I've seen a picture of the sheet and read cover letters for Packet 3 that mention including it. As for the benefits of having it before receiving it in the mail, I've read about three: 1. You can start your DS-130 application and start tracking your case via CEAC. 2. You get information that there's progress on your case (SWEET) and 3. You can update your VJ timeline more accurately for people like you and me who are doing the best we can to be patient. So yeah, I'm planning on waiting but it definitely won't hurt anything if you decide call.

Good luck in the rest of your process

Thank you

The problem is I tried calling them a ton of times,

but not a single time I got through to a person.

If you check people's timeline, you'll note that processing at NVC is usually quick (1 to 3 weeks),

so hopefully you don't have to go through the hassle of calling them about 50 times a day

in hopes of getting through to someone once.

I received my NOA2 from CSC on June 20 via text/email. After 13 days I emailed and tried calling NVC with no luck. Then I read a post here that the trick to getting through on the phone was to keep dialing repeatedly. Hit redial over and over. I did that about 15 times before finally getting put on hold. Waited for almost an hour. Once I had a live person I got my case number and was told they had already sent my petition to the Embassy on July 3. So, it took 14 days to go from CSC to NVC and be forwarded to the Embassy. I received the NVC letter this last Monday, July 14.

After a week that it has left TSC, then contact the NVC. Everytime you call them ask for the Case #. Once you are able to get the Case # than that means they have received it. Also make sure you ask when it has left the NVC. To check the status of your petition going from the NVC to the Embassy, check on the CEAC website with the case number they gave you. "AT NVC" for it has not left yet. "IN TRANSIT" speaks for itself. "READY" meaning it has arrived at the Embassy. Once you get the "READY" on the website than call the Embassy to make sure they received it in hardcopy form.

--- While waiting for the petition to arrive at the Embassy, gather your paperwork after the NOA2 and send to your fiance. It is not the I-864 (this is for later in the states). The form you will need to fill out is the I-134 for K1.

You are now ready to pay for the VISA and fill out the DS160 and schedule the Interview.
