Public Vs. Confidential Marriage License in Ca - K1 Visa

Hello Visa Journey Folks,

My fiance and I are going to get married soon in CA. When I went to sign up for the marriage license, it gives me the option of public license or confidential. I did some research and turns out in Ca you can choose confidential license, which makes it so no one (except bride and groom) can look up the marriage records. I'm a fan of limiting public information online, so I think the confidential license sounds appealing.

My question is, will there be any problems when I apply for my adjustment of status (AOS) with this confidential marriage license? Will it put up any red flags in the mind of USCIS, or is it the same as the public license? I just want to make sure I don't run into any issues down the line. BTW my fiance is here on a K1 visa.

Provided you are legally married under the laws of the state of California then it won't matter which you choose.

That's a good question. I have wondered the same thing. Because we're also adjusting from a K1 visa, we're doing a regular one. My logic is that I want our license searchable. I'm not famous, so I doubt people would specifically search my marriage license, but I want to make sure that those who need to verify it, can. The most appealing thing about a confidential marriage license to me was not needing a witness. We're marrying secretly next week, but don't want our family/friends know since lots of people are traveling in October for our wedding.

It is perfectly legal to get any license type you eligible for, but wanted to put this info out there, just so you are aware. This person had the confidential license and ended up getting a Stokes second interview. They were approved after the Stokes because their marriage was legit, but what a hassle. It makes no absolutely no difference. Get the license that suits your needs. Congrats and good luck!
