Hi, my wife just got her green card and I was wondering if she could travel to europe on the green card without applying for a visa beforehand. I know for any US citizens, most countries in the world allow them to enter their country without a visa as long as they don't stay past 30, 60, 90, 6 months....depending on each country's laws. I'm not sure if this applies to green card holders as well.

Until someone has a US Passport (when you become a US citizen), they continue to travel on the passport of the country they are a citizen of. If they need a visa to travel to Europe depends on the country their passport is from. (For example, a friend's wife is originally from the Ukraine and until she became a citizen she always needed a visa to travel.)

I think there is not a Spouse of European Community visa, I think is still the same Schengen Visa but the Consulate or Embassies of the European Country in the USA don't charge any money for it, as "a favor" to the European people living abroad and their spouses and children. I haven't used it though since hubby does not need visa for Europe but I have been told about this in the Consulate of Spain in NY.

There is another visa called something else, which is the one, that spouses and children need if the European Citizen living abroad returns to the Europe to reside and the non EU spouse and kids accompany him, even if they are US citizens.

Hi, my wife just got her green card and I was wondering if she could travel to europe on the green card......

No she will have to use an aeroplane like everyone else :P

The answers above deal with it really. You give no indication of what nationality your spouse is or which country she is travelling to. Go to the embassy website for the country(ies) you wish to visit and you should find details of entry requirements for various nationalities. Her green card status is of no relevance to any country other than the USA where she will need to produce it on re entry.
