Hi,

After long wait finally I arrived (yesterday) to my wife in Florida with CR1 visa.

I gave the envelope at the custom airport.

My question is:

Does I need to registered as new resident in Florida or should I wait until I receive the SSN (green card)?

** and the same with driving licence?

Not sure what you mean by "registered" as a new resident of Florida but, as a Florida resident myself, I do believe they will require a SSN as well as 2 forms of proof of residential address (utility bills, bank statements, etc) before they will issue a FL driver's license..

Look here for that info:

Oh, and I know you didn't mean anything by it, but be careful using the word "citizen", especially U.S. citizen, while you are a Permanent Resident.. I just mention it because, when you do apply for your FL driver's license, they will ask questions regarding citizenship and/or if you wish to register to vote. Of course, you do NOT wish to do so at this time.

You should be able to go to the social security office to get your ssn. Show them your passport with your CR-1 visa stamp.

Take that paper you get from Social security to DMV with your proof of residency (utility bills, apartment lease, ect.) to get your DL.

thx to all for the help,

another question:

from what i know i should receive the green card within 3 weeks but what about ssn can i get it before or only after green-card?

You can get it before as well as after. Up to you but i'd recommend to get is asap.

It is not where I breathe but where I love that I live.
