NOA1 but no letter of receipt

Hello all,

I contacted USCIS last week on Jan. 12, 2007 to see if I could get information about the status of my petition for fiancee as it was received in Nebraska on Dec. 27, 2006.

The individual that I spoke with asked me several questions to verify that I was the person filing the petition and then she told me that the CSC was handling the case and that the NOA1 had been sent out by mail on Jan. 8, 2007, she also gave me the receipt number.

I entered the receipt number into the uscis website so that I could track the progress of my petition and sure enough the case was there, but the "Last Updated" date was Jan. 12 (maybe because the person mentioned above looked up the information that she gave me on Jan. 12)

Anyway, I haven't received the NOA1 in the mail as of yet, and today is Jan. 19, 2007. 11 days after the date that the USCIS said the item was mailed certainly seems like more than enough time for the document to get here.

God knows that I would much rather have the letter coming to me get lost in the mail than packet going to the NVC but ...

Do I need to have the NOA1 for future reference?

If it doesn't show up, will it be a problem?

Don't need it... not a problem. The case number is the only info and you have that.

YMMV

Hmm can't you contact USCIS again and request a copy? NOA2 is the important one; and I have heard that one should bring the origional NOA1 and NOA2 to the interview just in case, but it probably isn't a big deal.

I'm not sure why you'd need a copy of the NOA1. Basically all the form does is tell you what day they received your case and gives your case number (both of which you can get by other means).

also consider that there has been a national holiday in there, as well as crappy ice storm weather too. All adds up to delayed mail. I wouldn't sweat it too much, like others said, it's the NOA2 that's most importan, don't lose that sucker!
