Hi everyone, I'm arriving to the US on a K1 visa. Some questions I have are...

1. Will I be able to join my husband in Japan

2. What are the required documents from start to finish.

3. Is it possible for me to process AOS overseas

4. Is a military base overseas considered US soil

5. Lets say everything is finished, what do I need to get back into the US when he PCS.

It depends if your husband will get orders with you or not. Some duty stationes are only for soldier, and if he will receive orders before you get married, they won't pay for plane ticket for you. Documents you can find over here, the process and what is required. If you leave USA without AOS, you will have to go through CR1 which is process embassy. When is your husband leaving to Japan? Military base is considered us soil. You need your passport and green card to get back.

The answers vary depending the situation... First, will you be married by then? If not, you won't be able to get command sponsored and added to the orders as a fiancé. Also, does your husband already has his orders? If so, it might be too late to get them ammended. He can still try, but it doesn't means they will accept to do it. You need to make sure you get a dependant ID as soon as you get married, and get enrolled in DEERS, then he needs to talk to his command to see what he need to do to switch his orders to a "accompagnied tour" which is usually 36 months, instead of 12 or 24. To get command sponsored you need to go through complete medical screening and sometimes dental too. You will need valid passport, birth certificate, marriage certificate, etc.

As for the AOS overseas i have no experience regarding this, but from my understanding it shouldn't be an issue since you would be on his military orders.

Once you are ready to PCS back to the States, will you be done with the VISA process? If so, then all you will need is your husband military orders with your name on it, your passport and your green card. If not then you need to see with the consulate there what are your options.

As for what teanet said about them not paying for your flight if you join him later, it is not true. I was an "aquired dependant" and the military paid to move my furnitures and all my belongings to Japan, as well as my plane ticket. It all depends of your case/situation and who your husband is dealing with.

Lucky you , my friend from Germany had to pay for her stuff and ticket by herself. They got married after he received orders and they wouldn't change them anymore. But like you said it all depends on who husband will deal with.
