USC paying for trip going to B2 interview in Kiev - good or bad idea?

My mother-in-law is going tomorrow morning to her B2 interview at the Kiev consulate. I am in Kiev now and am wondering if I should go with her. She has her own documents showing ties to Ukraine, but I helped prepare her application and stated there that I would be paying for her trip. (She will be coming to our wedding).

I have heard conflicting advice on this, so I would like to focus my question on *history*. Does anyone know of a case at the Kiev consulate or a related consulate in which the USC accompanied a B2 application (particularly one who was paying for the B2 applicant's trip). If so, how did it go? Approved or denied?

My first thought is how would you get into the Consulate without appropriate documentation?

I am a USC, I have a US passport. One stray comment on visajourney says that USCs are allowed in the Kiev consulate. I cannot confirm this, but it seems reasonable given that the US Embassy is essentially US property and the B2 waiting room is just a huge room with lots of people (I saw it when I got the K1).

But I do not know for sure either way. In general I need the collective wisdom of VJ.

Usually the US Section is in a different area. Kiev could of course be different, if you got in last time with just your passport you should be good to go.

I'm not sure, because my fiancee spoke to the man at the gate in Ukrainian before he let me in line.

But in any case, it's no problem to go there and not be allowed in. The real question is, should I go in even if I am allowed...

Can not imagine they would want to talk to you, but if you want to and can then why not.

They'll probably let you in, but I don't think the consulate officer will even speak with you at all. I don't think you being there will make a difference either way with a B2 visa (it does help for K1, but Ukraine is easy on K1 anyway).
