How to tell what Field Office city our application is in?

I am an American citizen and my wife is adjusting her status following our marriage last year.

We live in Washington, DC but we put my parents' Connecticut address as the mailing address since we were in the process of switching addresses at the time. We have our old DC address (which is conveniently a few blocks from our new address) on file as the permanent address, and our lawyers told us that the mailing address would be used only for mailing.

Lo and behold, earlier this year my wife was given a biometrics appointment date at a Connecticut office. Our lawyers told us to show up at our local one (which, living in Washington, DC, is in Virginia) at the same time and date shown on the Connecticut appointment and explain the situation. My wife filled in the forms and they took her photo and fingerprints, and everything proceeded as normal. She received her work permit about a month later.

Our application receipt date is January 6th, 2014. I've been anxiously checking the processing dates for Washington, DC, and as of my writing this post, they have data from May 31st, 2014, showing that at that date they were on December 15th, 2013. Considering that we are currently 46 days from the most recent reporting date, that would mean that at current pace today they are working on January 30th, 2014, nearly a month after our case.

The Hartford, CT Field Office is further behind, working on October 22nd, 2013 as of May 31st, 2014. At that pace, that would mean that today they are working on December 7th, 2013.

I'm not sure if the errors stem from our lawyers screwing up a form or USCIS misinterpreting a form, but I am hesitant to change any addresses on file for fear of delaying our process further.

Is it more likely that we've mistakenly been filed again at the Connecticut office or that we have been correctly filed for the Washington, DC office and that they are a month behind their own schedule? Is there a way to find out which Field Office we have been assigned to? I'm guessing this question is somewhat out of the ordinary.

I'm happy to provide any more information as needed. Thanks!

IMO it does take a little while for them to update between the field office and main service center but you should probably call and file an update for you new address so you will know for sure that any letters will go to you and that you ASC will be Washington. If not it's more than likely the same thing will happen again.

The thing is, our immigration lawyers also receive copies of everything and then scan and email them to us. My parents also forward us everything. So there is no change we'll miss anything. For good measure, I have USPS mail forwarding at my old DC address and I also walk to that house and manually get any mail that didn't forward.

Is there a way to know for sure, before the ASC interview, what city we are assigned to? Is it possible that USCIS could mistakenly confuse the mailing address and the permanent address? It seems like an extremely amateur error to me if so. Thanks for any insights!

You can call and ask to speak to a tier 2 officer, i.e. someone that's an actual IO. They will be able to tell you the current location of your case.

I did this and I was told our address was listed as Connecticut even though we put that down simply as a mailing address and Washington, DC was our physical address.

That said, our lawyer filed a change of address and said that for permanent residence (but not for naturalization), even an out-of-area field office had the jurisdiction to carry out the interview and approve a green card.

At this point, I don't believe any field office has our case, but Washington, DC is one month past our priority date and Connecticut is a little under two weeks behind our priority date, so in two weeks we should know one way or another what state we'll have our interview in.
