getting an interveiw appointment confusion

I'm a little confused. My wife lives in the philipines and we are waiting on our IV to be invoiced. The way I understood things is that when it is time for an appointment for interview to be made the NVC will handle setting it up. However reading through some of the topics I have run across several where it seems like some are able to set up there own appointment, Can someone explain this to me please. Thank you

Yes K1 Visas setup their own. IR1/CR1 NVC setups according to the slots given to them by the embassy.

Im just curious, whats faster and easier- nvc setting up the schedule vs the applicant finding an open slot for an interview?

From my experience so far nothing is fast if the NVC is doing it. I am always in favor of doing things myself, no one will have the urgency that I have about getting something done. I have been told since I posted this topic that on K1 visa"s can set there on interview. It's not availible for K3. I hope this helps.

For spousal visa and other family/employment based petitions, it is the NVC who does the scheduling.

Only the K1/K2 visa chasers can do the online/telephone scheduling because their cases don't stay long with NVC. Once NVC issues their case numbers, the files are sent immediately to the embassy.

Be nice if we spousal visa folk could but no can do. You are at the mercy of NVC.

Depends on openings at the embassy or consulate. For instance K1 in Montreal normally wait 2-6 months for their date and sometimes there are no available dates. So CR1/IR1 get the prime spots and only a month or two wait at most. Other embassies and consulates do not do this and spousal visas wait longer. Sometimes it depends in the time of year. Either way it's irrelevant for you since you CANNOT book the interview and must wait for the NVC.
