18 should be the legal drinking age in pubs/restaurants etc, but I don't have a problem with a parent deciding what's appropriate for their child in the home. Kids in France drink watered down wine at a very young age. However, I think people should educate themselves more on the negative effects of alcohol and what the signs of dependency are and ensure that they don't have a blase attitude about it. it's a drug and like any drug there are pros and cons to taking it into your system. Personalty I don't think the drinking age thing really works on any level.unless you are educated about how the drug works and also a personal view, there should be zero tolerance on a personal level to drinking and driving. Sure, leave the legal limits as they are, but everyone should be aware and respect that any level of alcohol in the system impairs the ability to drive and make decisions and this should be a social no no that everyone understands and observes.. That simple personal step would save a lot of lives.

Refusing to use the spellchick!

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

Agree with pretty much all of that but there are greater ills than driving home after a (as in one) drink. Cell- and smartphones would probably top that list. Those devices impair the ability to drive more than anything else.

Being raised in an Italian family which did just this, I can't disagree more with his premise that it prevents rebellious teenagers from sneaking off and drinking or binge drinking. Every member of my family, cousins included, were heavy drinkers and partiers in our teens and early twenties. We even used to sneak down to my Uncle's wine cellar at family get togethers and get smashed on home made vino.

Knowing what I know now about young people and alcohol, I would push for the drinking age to be at least 25 if not 30.

You seem to be arguing one of the major points of anti-prohibition: the law doesn't stop people who want to drink. What it does, literally in your case, is to drive it underground.

If you want a high murder rate, fantastical profits in organized crime, corrupt police who take money in protection rackets and injustice in enforcement of laws - bring on prohibition. The nation did that already and saw how letting the do-gooders run the law brought about the kind of organized crime capable of destroying society.

I don't drink a drop of alcohol ever, but can see how prohibition causes more problems than it solves so I am not going to try imposing my own sobriety on everyone else in society. The hypocrisy of elders doing the opposite of what they are saying too - God, what more disgusting example can we serve to our kids and prove they shouldn't listen to us. The biggest problems we have in the USA are prescription drug abuse and legal alcohol consumption.

I am assuming you meant biggest drug Problem. I go such a lipitor Buzz right now :)

Tonight after after an afternoon of 6 Pinay women at my house eating strange looking food and laughing in Tagalog all day, I saw a baggie with several white pills in it. So being a good husband I inquire.

My wife tells me her friend gave it to her. It was headache medicine she shared with her. She said it really worked good, because the doctor had prescribed it for her. Class A, in case i get one of my headaches. So I get a pill and Google it up, thinking Hyodrocodone or some such pill.

Want to take a guess. Naproxen 550 mg. I opened the counter ad gave her a box of Aleve. I said. Take two of these. Same thing, much cheaper. Probably should not have, because I stole the placebo effect.

Question-Why would a doc prescribe an over the counter medicine, when they can buy it much cheaper over the counter?

And violent video games.

and sex..

Permit me to answer that.

With some drugs, the higher doses are only available by prescription, usually because those higher doses could be problematic if misused. Ie: they don't want somebody self-medicating their headaches 4X day for a week (the usual regimen on the lower dose OTC varieties) with the higher strengths to prevent certain toxicities. And of course the drug companies also make more money by keeping at least a portion of those meds only available by prescription.

I had success losing weight while smoking dope. I only ate at designated "meal times" and they were the best meals ever.

I understand that, but why not just tell her take 2 no more than once every 12 hours

Patients don't just take one or two... They think if one works for their headache, two must be even better. They double, sometimes triple, doses on their own, at their peril.
