Hamas leaders have said a ceasefire must include an end to Israel's blockade of Gaza and a recommitment to a truce reached in an eight-day war there in 2012. Hamas also wants Egypt to ease restrictions at its Rafah crossing with Gaza imposed after the military ousted Islamist president Mohamed Morsi last July.

At least share both sides. They offered terms, Israel rejected them. Why miss a chance to clear out some more homes right?

Are you kidding me? That's funny. Even the Egyptian TV made fun of the ridiculous Hamas demands and asked them if they want them to pack up a pyramid in a bag for them. Egyptian officials blame Hamas for not agreeing to a ceasefire. Only mr expat thinks that everything Hamas wants Hamas should get. Only Mr expat posts silly quotes of "rabbinical law" things no one really believes, but you don't see him posting anything about Sharia law. And then turns around and says hey I'm not anti Israel, I'm not anti jews, I'm only anti what Israel is doing to the poor Palestinians. It is so sad that people hide behind the conflict and a humanitarian face to disguise their hatred for people defending themselves in the only homeland they ever had.

France's interior minister Monday slammed "intolerable" acts of anti-Semitism after a rally against Israel's Gaza offensive descended into violence pitting an angry pro-Palestinian crowd against local Jewish businesses.

Sunday's demonstration in the north Paris suburb of Sarcelles was the third to deteriorate in a week, as shops were looted and riot police lobbed tear gas and rubber bullets at the crowd.

The rally had been banned amid concern the Jewish community would be targeted after protesters last weekend tried to storm two synagogues in Paris.

"When you head for the synagogue, when you burn a corner shop because it is Jewish-owned, you are committing an anti-Semitic act," Bernard Cazeneuve told reporters outside the Sarcelles synagogue.

In the Paris suburb sometimes nicknamed "little Jerusalem" for its large community of Sephardic Jews, the rally descended into chaos when dozens of youth -- some masked -- set fire to bins and lit firecrackers and smoke bombs.

Eighteen people were arrested after looters wrecked shops, including a kosher foodstore and a funeral home as protesters shouted: " Israel!".

We have never seen such an outpouring of hatred and violence in Sarcelles," said the mayor Francois Pupponi. "This morning people are stunned, and the Jewish community is afraid."

The violence in Sarcelles mirrored that of another banned rally Saturday in Paris, where a protest spiraled out of control, leading to clashes with riot police and dozens of arrests.

The blistering Gaza offensive has deeply polarized opinion in a country that counts the largest Muslim population in western Europe and a huge Jewish community.

Cazeneuve said it was "intolerable for synagogues or stores to be targeted just because they are run by Jews."

"Nothing can justify such violence."

The bans have drawn controversy as the rallies took place anyway and turned violent, while authorized ones elsewhere in the country -- as well as across Europe -- were peaceful.

"It is not the ban that is causing the violence, it was the violence that led to the ban," Cazeneuve insisted.

Bunch of peaceful folks. All they want is peace in the middle east. This has nothing to do with anti semitism. They are only against Israel's atrocities. Funny. Hmmm wonder who were the last people that burned down Jewish businesses...wait don't tell me...I'm sure I'll be able to remember on my own.

What's so interesting about this guilt-tripping is that the very idea of a "religious homeland" or "ethnic homeland" is contrary to the most basic constitution and enlightened thinking of Americans.

The exception in our country is Indian reservations, which is the exact opposite idea. It's more like the concentration camp idea applied to Jews in the holocaust - marching Indians off their good land quite literally with the trail of tears and so forth, on to marginal lands where they are kept separate from the rest of society. Well, like Gaza. That is the defacto Indian reservation for the Palestinians.

Insofar as forming a Christian country or a White country or what have you - nobody accepts such a thing. So why is the idea of Israel being a homeland for Jews so widely accepted? It seems the holocaust caused people to reject some fundamental precepts about government needing to be completely free of religious or ethnic considerations.

This is a big part of the problem if you ask me. White supremacists get the big smack-down when they start talking like this and so should anyone else where ethnicity, religion, gender or etc. become reasons for a government or class of citizenship.

You are right, I am biased. I am biased cause I don't want terrorists to be able to use tunnels and show up in people's houses, kidnap and murder men women and children by the dozens if not hundreds, I admit, I am biased. If that makes me biased then I am proud to be biased...guilty as sin.
