I know every ones circumstances are different but I do think it's a bit poor when the USC has the beneficiary do all of the work, especially when English isn't their first language. Some kind of division of work seems fair in most cases.

I'm the petitioner and I'm also familiar with immigration law and the legal system in the US and abroad. I took it upon myself to prepare all the forms and research everything. I just told fiance where to sign and what documents to give me. But as he is better organized that I am (I was pleasantly surprised) he ended up providing me with a lot of supporting documents that I didn't think to include so we each pitched in what we could.

After the NOA2, he'll have to do most of the work since I'm here and he is in his home country so he'll have to apply for the police certificate and organize the NVC packet. I'll do what I can but not sure how much help I can be being so far away.

Don't blame your husband and I don't think this is any foreshadowing. If he isn't a legal expert or comfrotble with paperwork, it's just difficult for him. Just sit down together and figure stuff out together. You can also go to your local community center and ask to speak to a social worker who might be able to help you or direct you to a FREE legal aid attorney.

Don't lose faith and don't let this minor snag affect your relationship.

Best of luck!

My bf did absolutely nothing ! He wanted to use a lawyer which would have costed us (him) 5.000 bucks plus other fees. We recently graduated so I didn't wanna spend that much . Instead, I did some research and with websites like VJ , I just put all the paper together and mailed it. Saved us thousands of bucks. It was a pain in the *** organizing stuff , I told him "do whatever I tell you and don't ask any questions " , he did exactly what I told him and everything worked out.

On our K1 visa it was my husband who did gather everything and what I needed to do was just to sign the papers. But for the AOS, he asked me if I can prepare all the documents needed, so I am doing it but good thing he helps me everytime I have something I don't understand or confuse about. Hopefully your husband will realize that he also has to help when you need him too. Hope everything goes well with you and your husband.

I am the beneficiary. ?

No matter who prepares the petition it's critical that the beneficiary knows exactly what is in any and all documents given to the IO. That includes financial information and Skype chats. Whatever information you provide is likely to be used to question you with during the interview.

I took care of 95% of the process myself! My SO is not very good at paperwork and deadlines, and I am super organized, so it just made sense for me to take care of it! I have no problem with it of course. We both have our strengths and weaknesses and so I took on the responsibility of getting my visa status in order. I personally don't see anything wrong with that.

I'm in a similar situation. I've done the majority of the paperwork up to this point. At the start (K1 petition and visa preparation), that upset me a bit. We had a heated discussion about it at one point at which I told him that the fact that he kept procrastinating about getting stuff to me to enable me to file for my visa made me worry that maybe he had changed his mind and didn't want to marry me after all. He was mortified, and he's been much better since. But he's just not good at organizing stuff and doing paperwork, and I am. But he's better at other things than I am, and that combination is what makes a good marriage, I think. We're a team. And in our particular team, I'm the one who does the official paperwork!

But he has never yelled at me if I don't have all the paperwork done, that seems a bit out of order! The USCIS paperwork is a nightmare, and neither of us enjoy doing it. But it's necessary if we are to be together, and that benefits him as much as it does me. Actually given that I'm the one who has given up my life / friends / home / job to move to the US, it's arguable that he benefits more. We have my green card interview next week, and that's the line I've used to get him to help me pull everything together - "the paperwork is horrible, but it's for a good cause, you want me to stay here with you, right?".

I don't think there is a right answer as to who should do what paperwork, the key thing is that the allocation of responsibility is one that you're both comfortable with. And yes, as others have said, it perhaps does provide an indication as to how these kinds of things will work in your marriage going forward. Good luck!

My husband and I like to joke that he's like the manager and I'm his employee. I know it sounds bad but I actually enjoy doing the paperwork and prepping and I just ask him to print, sign and mail in the packets.

He works hard and is almost always just exhausted when he comes home so I try to make things as easy and possible for him since I do have the time to do the research. I just tell him what to send and the docs he'll need to gather and he just goes and gets them.

On second thought, I might be the manager after all lol but he does his part.

Sorry you are going through this. I also think it's kinda cruddy to have the beneficiary do the work. I am the petitioner and I did the actual paperwork so far but my husband has been very sweet and supportive even when I was freaking out over little things. I hope this is just an isolated incident you are going through. Some people just don't deal with paperwork well. Maybe he is overwhelmed. I guess only you and your gut really know.

Best of luck to you hun.

My husband just provided the documents needed from him and signed all the forms. That was pretty much it. I am the beneficiary and I took care of it together with our lawyer. I would just tell him all the paperwork that was required. I'm not quite sure if my husband even understands the process completely :bonk: Lol.

My fiancé and I worked together with this, he's not as good at sourcing information because I'm the VJ user and I've read and learned so much from talking and reading on the forums but he puts in a lot of effort gathering information, forms, and evidence. He's a quick learner and we are very good at communicating so no arguments have arisen. That being said, if either of us had different personalities, we would have argued a lot during this process, it's stressful dealing with this much information!
