Affadavit Question......

My wife (the applicant) and I are about to fill out the I-751. We want to get an affadavit from a friend who lives in a different state than us (he was at our wedding). Can this friend write the affadavit, sends the letter to us, and have it notarized where we live? Or is it better that he writes the letter and has it notarized where he lives? Not sure if my wife needs to be present when it's notarized.

Thanks in advance for your response.

notary folk are usually commissioned in each state,

so i suggest you get it done in the friend's state.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !
Ya know, you can find the answer to your question with the advanced search tool, when using a PC? Ditch the handphone, come back later on a PC, and try again.

A notary witnesses the signing. That is all they do. They sign and give their notary stamp attesting to the fact that the person that signed it presented ID and is in fact the person that actually signed in front of them. You cannot get someone else's signature notarized. Your wife would not need to be there for someone to sign and get their own document notarized.
