Hi everyone. We finally made it to noa2 and past the nvc stage. Our case for k1 has been forwarded from nvc to santo Domingo on July 14.

How long before we should contact Dominican embassy? What do we do next? Do we speak to embassy first before filling out DS 160? How long before interview? So grateful that we are at this point after 1 year of filing. We were July 2013 filers. Thank god. Any input would be appreciated.

In a week contact the Embassy and get your paperwork ready to send to your Fiance. Then do the DS160 and pay the Visa Fee and schedule the appointment. Then do your medical once your interview is scheduled.

Once the NVC has sent your case to the embassy, they will enter the information received into their system.

You can check the status of your case by entering your NVC case number into ceac: https://ceac.state.gov/ceac/ enter the case number under "IMMIGRANT" and "Check my visa application status". Enter the number including the 3 letters at the beginning.

When the status says 'Ready" it means the consulate has your case and will send you a packet 3 email with instructions on what to do next, including when to fill out DS-160.

I would say start to fill out your ds160, you can save it for 30 days.

Get your birth certificate in extensa and police certificate (get it closer to the day of the interview because it is good for 30 days) and photos, remember that you have to upload a digital copy with the ds160 form. Get any other document that fits your case. Use this link for instructions concerning the US Consulate in the DR. http://santodomingo.usembassy.gov/k1-k2_instructions.html in case if you need to present more documents like divorce, military records, etc.

The medical should be 15 days before the interview date (by recommendation of the Consultorios de Visa)

Now, personally I waited around 10-14 days before emailing the consulate, they replied in 2 days with the package IV which includes the letter of the interview, two days later I got the actual letter (it took 2 weeks from inposdom to deliver it).

Also, if you call the consulate paying the pin or emailing before the 10 days, chances are that they may have not processed your case yet, (or maybe they already had) and their answer could be that the interview date could be around 120 days and that's 4 months, and some had waited that long. In my case my interview date was like 6 weeks after the consulate got my case. The interview it is set by the consulate, you do not schedule it.. what they will send you is the letter that will say the day and the hour, instructions to follow (documents, medical, etcs), IMBRA panphlet, costs of the fees and where to pay each one, and a list of items to not bring the day of the interview....apparently no one reads that here and they still bring the forbidden items like cell phones lol.

Remember, every case is different.

Good luck and congrats!
