Applying for a SSN.. again!

My fiancee first arrived in the US on Feb 1, we were married on Feb 23 and a few days later we went to apply for an SSN. We brought her I-94, Passport and Visa with entry stamp, and our marriage certificate and her birth certificate... and we were denied. The guy didn't really know what to do with the materials and said it would take a week or so before we heard back and when we did it was a letter saying that they couldn't give her a number.

So we decided to wait until we received the EAD, and now we're just about to head back to the office with the card, her passport and just to be sure, our marriage certificate and her birth certificate.

On the application, it asks "Has the person listed in item 1 or anyone acting on his/her behalf ever filed for or received a Social Security number card before?" There's a box for yes, no and 'don't know.' We applied, obviously, but never received the card because she was denied.

Do we put don't know in that box or just no?

Thanks for the help...

Put "Yes"...if they need further explanation, you will have the opportunity to do so but if you say "No", it is a close and shut case.you wont be able to reverse it.

Honesty!!

Good luck

Hey agentoneal,

I think the first time we went she brought her I-94, birth certificate, passport. We didn't have any issues but it was very very difficult to read the birth certificate from the philippines.

The second time we went for the name change on her social. We had I-94, birth certificate, old social security card, passport, and marriage certificate. She originally messed up her name by just changing her last name. We caught it and she changed the maiden to middle and my last name. However, DMV has been a disaster with changing her name.

To answer your question just put yes. They probably won't ask many questions, just say you were missing some documents they wanted but have them now.

Good news! My wife called back today to check on the status because our clerk told us to check back again in 5 days -- well, it's really only been two but that put us over the 10 days thing.

Left a message and he called back this afternoon saying that he ran the application again and it went through! He said it could take up to 10 days to generate a number, but he'll call her when it does because he gets a notice when they're generated!

Sorry for the previous message, I was numb at the dentist. Anyway, here's hoping that number comes soon! Exclamation mark!
