Nope, got a job offer to come and live in the area. Considering it since they're willing to wait for me to retire and it's what I would love to do in the civilian world.

Close. Rhode Island.

I have been scanning job boards for months.

I saw no openings for , " Someone to be racially over sensitive on VJ all day" may be required to have a gorgeous wife !

You''ll see guys making out with guys, girls making out with girls, same sex couples playing touchy feely right on Main Street. You'll love it!

Drop a brother a pin

To be honest, I thought I wouldn't get it since I crashed on the interview. I was in TAP that week and had a phonecon with the hiring officials during my lunch break. I was so nervous. As soon as I hung the phone up, I knew I didn't get the job. But I called and talked to the secretary and apologized for my nerves and sent a thank you card. I got the offer on Friday. But I have been told I sound white on the phone...

They already had all the twice convicted white felons they needed.

It is your own fault. I told you you should have voted for Obama 5 times, not only 3!!

My bad, I felt bad for voting so many times. :crying:

You're lucky. I got offered a job down in Charleston, SC that I really wanted, but they need someone right now and I still have too much time left. If I got that one, I was coming to GA so I could cut you, with love of course.

Congratulations, Marvin!

Thanks Jacque67, can't wait to go there.

Thanks, I wanted that one really bad since I wanted to go back to SC since Basic.

Cool, good luck with the new job and the new location. Sounds like a winner

Thank you. I'm looking forward to RI, heard good things about it.

Maybe you sounded as you did because you were so nervous that you were as white as a sheet?

See below for other (more serious) observations, see man.

lucky I sent the card and followed up. I think that made up for my mistake.

Marvin, whether through instinct, proper upbringing, or accurate gut reaction in a crisis, you did exactly what would distinguish you from any other prospect they had. You scored giant points by calling the secretary -- positive word about you definitely spread through the office like wildfire. Following up, by real mail, used to be practically a requirement -- and so few applicants do it today that those who actually do follow up end up standing out with true class.

Had I been the hiring manager, knowing that you'd not applied for a "job" in 20 years (if ever) but seeing you act in this way, I'd have slam-dunked you into the position so fast that you wouldn't have had time to go to South Carolina to cut anybody in Georgia. Your initial nerves aside, you did everything precisely right and properly and well. Damned impressive. Look in the mirror and salute yourself, sir, si man.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

That gave me goose bumps. It means a lot T-Bone. Thank you. But I'll always make time to cut someone, especially NB :content:

I'll say this much, they told us in TAP to follow up with a thank you card. The young lady who taught us, I sent her a letter of recommendation right to her job and my wife is making her some spring rolls and Malaysian style rice. I believe in helping others, and those who help me, I show my gratitude.

Congratulations!

:) Thank you.

Surprised this hasn't been moved to OT too!!

If it is, I'll use the race card, it comes in handy sometimes.

Marvin, I used this thread in an effort to shed some light on the absurd inconsistencies of what is allowed to stay in CEHST and what gets moved to OT, like my CEHST gets personal thread, I hope you understand and if this thread gets moved because of my post, I apologize.

No worries Tedmeister. I actually had a job thread in the OT thread a few months ago, so if it gets moved, I'm not stressed about it. Different strokes for different mods.
