Case update in the middle of the night? We've been in AP for more than a month. Nothing was changed or updated from June 30th until yesterday, July 14th. It was updated with a "Status Updated Date" of 14-Jul-2014 until the last time I checked which was probably an hour ago.

I have been obsessively checking and just saw this. Why would the last update be in the middle of the night? Is this an automated process, or are they really working on my case at midnight/1 AM Brazil time?

I certainly hope so..

The AP was because on Part 3 I didn't check the boxes about criminal history on my original application. It was corrected via RFE but it was apparently not forwarded to them or they couldn't find it. It has been a struggle to get them on the right path. I've sent them the document at least 5 times via email and post.

Maybe one secret agency from usa governement was working in your case and updated it. Lol

I was checking a friend's parents case and I noticed that was updated on saturday 12 and issued on monday 14.

The consulate here doesnt work on saturday, so probaly are the usa agencies who work in the cases. That isnt a secret that usa after the patriot act spy people and have the control of everything with a lot of agencies, maybe the watch all papers before give the permition to the embassy to issue a visa, who knows.

We frequently got over-the-weekend and weird-time-of-day updates. (Still do, actually.) And no, there isn't someone working on your case at midnight US ET. :) What there almost certainly is, is a batch update process that runs after everyone is done with work for the day (or possibly week, depending), and a mailer daemon scheduled to send emails during the off-hours. (IOW, it's automated stuff; you're not seeing someone touch your case live.)
