like other posters have said tues and wed are best for deals, but you need to check frequently and be ready to book asap!

i prefer to go directly to the airline website to get deals....and of course book directly online. we see each other every 4-6 weeks and have made many trips since we met back in 2004. Long are the days where we flew buffalo to reno return for $199 but we still get good deals. many airlines have monthly calendars which show lowest fare, this gives you a better idea on pricing and availability.

signing up for airlines miles/rewards programs also helps but only after time and many visits. over the past 10 years both hubby and I have benefited from many free trips and drinks.

personally, we both love southwest. yah, i need to drive 1.5 hours to get to the airport but this is not a biggie to save $$ but buffalo airport is a breeze compared to yyz.

jetblue and alligent are pretty cheap too but i haven't used them.

happy hunting!

Another way to save some $$$$--Ebates....You first start off on the ebates (.com or .ca) site then goto participating companies.....Travelocity, expedia usually are. And one gets back a certain %. That % changes. Sometimes its only like 1%, but in some occasions its like 6% or more! I do a lot of online shopping since we live abroad, and it really adds up! They pay out quarterly. Either by a cheque or via an electric Amazon gift card. There are other companies like Ebates as well. My last trip to Canada from Nicaragua was booked via travelocity and got close to $60 back!!

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

U can also get an extenison for Google chrome....and the "E" flashes orange if the website participates in the Ebates program..just have to click on the flashing"E" to activate the savings! One does have to watch and make sure u get the $$$$. I have had to email Ebates (they have a place on their website that makes it super easy to do) a few times to get the $$$$ and it shows up super fast on my acct.

Sorry if this was posted before, I'm sure it must of been asked.

I am having serious home sickness, I've been here almost 5 months and it hasn't gotten any easier. I miss my family and my dog like crazy! My husband thinks I need a trip home, I'm not working yet so I could go home for a week or so but I wouldn't be able to plan it any further than a few weeks from now, he starts school the end of August and I really need a job by then. I've been applying places but haven't had much luck except volunteering at a vet clinic with the hopes employment hours will open up. Anything I look at now is about $800. I really couldn't go unless I got something under $600, which I can't find unless I go the end of August. Isn't there such thing as seat sales anymore? Don't flights try and sell seats that they haven't sold last minute? I could seriously go anytime. I probably won't be able to find anything, but it's worth a try if anyone knows of any secret ways I don't know about other than searching on flight websites? I don't like the idea of flying standby and being stuck at an airport. We are planning to go home around Christmas time, because that's the only time my husband will have time off school, but that seems so far away. (I'd be traveling from Salt Lake to Halifax..so no possibility of driving!)

I used to always book through Kayak but lately have been finding good deals with OneTravel, it's worth looking into. They give alternate dates and airports nearby as well.

Hope things work out!

Thanks so much for the tips! I will definitely look into that Ebates thing, that sounds like a good idea! I had made plans and set the dates I wanted to go..was going to meet my parents in NY August 2nd and stay until the 14th, as I was looking at flights to book...I got a phone call for a job interview, went to the interview today, went really well, and have a 'work interview' for a couple hours on Monday, if I get the job...which I really hope I do..I won't be able to go home :( Which makes me soo sad, but I soo need the job, it is exactly what I want. So mixed feelings on this. If I do get the job we will make plans to go home at Christmas time. Was really getting excited about the possibility of going home in almost 2 weeks :( But it will all work out. :) (OH and doesn't help I keep getting emails that there are fares as low as $175 to fly to NY August 2nd!)

if you get the job (which i hope you do), you'll have a new focus and won't be so homesick....

and then you'll be able to snag a better airfare come december!!! :dancing:
