Want To Travel To Philippines

My wifes conditional GC expires March 28th, 2015 so we would be sending in her packet on December 28th 2014. We want to travel to the Philippines on or about January 10th, 2015 for 5 weeks. Is there any way this can be done without screwing up her application? This time frame for traveling is due to her work allowing her to go then.

BIOMETRICS appointments occur after filing, usually 30 to 60 days after the NOA-1 date.

Why not just send in the packet when you return? You will still be within the time frame.

My NOA was dated 3 days after mailing my application and my biometrics appointment scheduled for exactly 30 days after mailing my application. If your process is anything like mine, you would miss your biometrics letter, biometrics appointment, and possibly your NOA letter. While you can reschedule biometrics (although frowned upon), you may not even be aware of when it is.

Do you have someone who can check your mail daily? If not, do you want to risk abandoning the application?

I guess my biggest worry about waiting to send in the packet is I don't want my wife's GC to expire as I'm not sure how that would affect her employment. Having someone check my mail is not a problem for me. I have pets and someone will be stopping by to look after them. I was under the impression that it was important to send the packet in 90 days in advance and not to wait. If biometrics always takes at least 30 days after the packet is sent in we could get it ready and have someone put it in the mail maybe 21 days before we come home to be safe?

The window opens 90 days before the G. Expires hut you can file anytime within the 90-day period, preferably as early as possible. Even if you file just 30 days in advance, you should be fine. I think your best bet is to wait to file after your trip or slightly before your trip. Your NOA will include a 1 year extension so you don't have to worry about the card expiring before the process is complete. Just so you know, rescheduling the biometrics should be your very last resort, especially since you have time on your side to file.
