Congratulations :huh2:

That must be it because I forsure left on the international side.

A lot of US airports use same terminal for both domestic and international flights. When you arrive (domestic or international,) airplane will be guided to right gates accordingly.

You came from a state with a lot of agriculture and fruit trees to another state with agriculture and fruit trees. The dog was there making sure you did not bring anything CA prohibits, There is a very cute beagle in Denver that was at the baggage claim area on our flight from HNL to DEN. CO is not as paranoid as CA, but the dog was still there sniffing people's bags.

Unless you had to show a passport and GC in order to gain entering in OAK, you did not go thru passport control as all international flights do. The only exception to all of this is PR. At ATL there were two flights to PR, one from the international terminal and the other from the domestic terminal, but PR is a special case as it is a territory and not a state, but I still did not have to show my passport upon return.

It's international leaving from Oakland.

No, it isn't. I lived in Hawaii for 7 years and still took trips there after I no longer resided there. I have flown to Hawaii from California quite a few times. It is a domestic flight. Hawaii is part of the United States and not another country.

I left from the international side. You can argue it all you want. I'm not here to convince you, I'm here to tell my experience.

I have through quite a few US airports and none had an International outgoing section, they do have gates that are normally used for international outgoing flights, but not always. Usually next to the duty free.

As you can see Oakland is no different, Gates 1 and 3 are accessed through the main concourse.

Hawaii is a state, it doesn;t matter which side you traveled from. You did NOT leave the country, no matter how you try to rationalize it in your own head, you never for one moment set foot in another country. It was domestic. And please explain to me how your post is supposed to help others?

I was really surprised to see an agent with his dog waiting at the gate in Oakland. I didn't think it would be international. I was sweating when I saw that. Everyone here told me it would be a domestic flight. Anyway it's all good. Just thought I'd share.

And you are proud of that? I mean, the being illegal and all that? I have a hunch your butt is going to be kicked off this site pretty soon.... Happy landing, once again.

OP was perhaps naive with his first post but post #15 and #17 show that he's seen where the mistake was made. As usual, everyone else has failed to read through the thread and instead prefers to jump all over him over his original post. Cripes, lighten up people. I don't think OP is thinking "nyah, nyah look what I got away with"--just made an honest mistake (and recognized it).

Thank you. Someone with a little common sense.

I'm not bragging at all. I'm going through the process like the rest of you guys. I check my I-130 status every day in hopes it changes. I chose not to go back home during this process on advice from a lot of people.

Aha, now the confusion can be cleared up. You're not "illegal," you're out of status. No biggie, since you've applied for an adjustment of status. Some people find this objectionable, but I don't. It's perfectly legal and for some people (I assume you amongst them) it is the correct thing to do. Best of luck on speedy processing of your I-130. :)
