I was really surprised to see an agent with his dog waiting at the gate in Oakland. I didn't think it would be international. I was sweating when I saw that. Everyone here told me it would be a domestic flight. Anyway it's all good. Just thought I'd share.

I stayed passed my 180 days. I was told the security dogs are on international only. It was international going to Hawaii, I didn't think it would be.

If it was an international flight, you would have gone through one of the international gates and got inspected by customs and immigration.

When I lived in Hawaii, I used to fly back and forth several times a year and it's always a domestic flight.

The agent could have been doing any number of things but he wasn't there to ascertain your immigration status. Lucky for you!

Hawaii is one of the states of the United States. It is a domestic flight. Hawaii is not international from the mainland. If flying to or from a country other than the US, then yes, it would be international. Flying state to state within the US, no.

Unless the flight makes a stop in another country somewhere, Oakland -> Hawaii is a domestic flight.

It is a domestic flight. However, depending on the size of the airplane (often bigger for more fuel, passenger baggage, etc) you may have left from an international terminal to accommodate a larger plane. Hawaii is a state, it is not an international flight.
