Israel-Gaza conflict: ‘Sderot cinema’ image shows Israelis with popcorn and chairs 'cheering as missiles strike Palestinian targets'

An image that appears to show a group of Israelis on a hilltop cheering and applauding as they watch the deadly aerial bombardment of Gaza has caused international outrage after it was shared by thousands on Twitter.

Taken by the Middle East correspondent for a Danish newspaper, the picture shows rows of people sitting on plastic chairs looking out over the Gaza Strip as rockets and explosions light up the night sky.

Allan Sørensen, who posted the image, wrote that it showed a kind of “cinema” on the hilltop outside the Israeli town of Sderot, and a caption added: “Clapping when blasts are heard.”

Sørensen’s newspaper, the Kristeligt Dagblad, reported that the gathering involved more than 50 people who had transformed the hill into something “most closely resembling the front row of a reality war theatre”.

It said that people were seen taking popcorn up onto the hill with their chairs, and that they sat cheerfully smoking hookahs.

Looks to me like they are just hanging out on the beach or something...unless they want to show a clear picture where you can clearly see what's happening, don't bother me with speculations. And even if it were true - at least they are being happy about their army defending themselves by hitting military targets, not innocents being killed like the very clear links I shared. I think there's a huge difference but what do I know.

If I lived in Sderot and had rockets rain on me for 14 years, I'd be takin a chair and watching them bombing Hamas too. Note no one said we're here to see them kill inncent people. But the Gazans dance in the street when inncoent people are killed.

Once again a futile attempt to cling onto anything that could smear Israel.

Does "Shock And Awe" ring a bell to anyone? How many people watched that on TV, and, lets say, weren't particularly upset about it? What is the difference between watching it on TV or in your own back yard? there is no difference.

I think it's pretty depraved to take pleasure in war and death. It doesn't matter who is doing it. It's sick.
