Mankind has been dealing effectively with this problem for millennia. The fact you discovered the problem yesterday and are freaking out about it doesn't make it any more serious for people who need to busy themselves with more pressing immediate problems.

Some people are just late bloomers …

So you frame people that are knowledgeable and doing something about their problems as do-nothings. Well, guess who it is amongst us that is the real do-nothing? That would be you.

Well, I for one AM doing something about it!!

I looked at historical estimates of ocean levels from several thousands of years ago, saw that they were 2~300M higher than they are today, and said, "Meh. Gonna go water my tomato plants."

Then I went back and read where the oceans are "flooding" at the rate of 1.8mm per year, and I sat down and poured myself a strong margarita, and found some more amazing shite on CEHST to read before the interwebs crash from all that sea water getting into our wifi cables...

You seem to mistake me for an environmental engineer. No idea why you would do that.

Sorry, mistook you for someone that actually cared.

But thanks for the "..... implement whatever measures are necessary to minimise the negative Impacts....." as I see you have found the answer for all of the worlds problems.

From what I read, the current estimate is a 2ft level rise in the Miami area by 2060. Not that far off.

Sea level rise is our reality in Miami Beach, said the citys mayor, Philip Levine. We are past the point of debating the existence of climate change and are now focusing on adapting to current and future threats.

There are two very different arguments here.

Firstly, that climate change (whatever the cause) is going to result in a 2 foot rise in sea level in the Miami area in the next 36 years. You either believe that or you don't. But if you don't believe it there should be facts to present, other than 'I don't believe it'. To anyone else reading this thread, that's just a cop out.

Secondly, that people who do believe it is happening are somehow responsible for coming up with the solution for it. I mean... does that same logic apply to fixing the US economy? What about resolving the problems in the middle east? How about curing cancer? Need I go on?

NO ONE believes that sea level will rise 2 feet in the next 36 years. Even at double the current rate it will only amount to a few inches.

I simply asked the OP what he thought. Did he think that people needed to be relocated. His answer is essentially something needs to be done. A lot of thought went into that.

Some people clearly do believe it. So your statement is false.

The Florida Department of transportation believes it.

The Mayor of Miami believes it.

Florida Atlantic University believes it.

The US Geological Survey believes it.

NASA believes it.

Florida Senator Bill Nelson believes it.

Two feet in 36 years? That's more than 5 times the current rate of rise. Just not seeing it.

Quaternary Science Reviews simply asked 90 experts on sea-level rise for their projections, based on their work. This isn't brand-new scientific research, but it does give a useful overview of the current state of knowledge on the subject.

...

The experts, on average, think global sea levels will rise somewhere between 0.7 and 1.2 meters by the end of the century if global warming continues unchecked (that's between 2.2 and 4 feet).

By contrast, they say, if we cut emissions significantly and avoid sharp temperature increases, we can likely limit that rise to somewhere between 0.4 and 0.6 meters (1.3 and 2 feet) by the end of the century:

(In the chart above, the red area shows a scenario in which greenhouse-gas emissions keep growing unchecked, known as RCP8.5. The blue area shows a scenario known as RCP2.6 in which we keep global warming below 2°C, likely requiring a 70 percent or more cut in cumulative global emissions by the end of the century.)

Below is an even more detailed table showing the range of sea-level rise forecasts for 2100 and 2300:

...

These values are higher than the "consensus" view from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. The IPCC projected an 0.5 to 1.0 meter rise by 2100 in the case of unchecked warming. This survey offers higher values, with a 1.5 meter rise possible at the upper end.

I disagree. Apparently a wannabe environmentalist expert with a VJ account believes it. So there's at least 1.
