My Daughter's Taste in Music

We were driving the other night and she threw on a CD that she had burned of various artists and I actually like some of what she's now listening to. Her tastes have matured a lot since she started HS school 3 years ago. We clash a lot on many things and it's been difficult for her not to be living with her mother, but I really feel some connection when I listen to the music she likes.

Anyhow, she has one track on the CD from David Gray - This Year's Love. I've had some MP3's of his music for about 5 years now and I remember her 'hating' my music back then.

Here's the lyrics...I had a heck of time figuring out what he was saying, but he gives a soulful delivery. Great track if you can find it online.

The 10 year old has claimed 'Bad day' as her favorite song EVER.

The 9 year old is very fond of 'Black horse and the cherry tree'

The 8 year old puts in her .02 by telling the other 2 to turn it down.

I don't mind the current favorites, though I do miss the days that I could play what I wanted to hear without being ordered to fast forward to the 'good songs'.

That's what happened to me too. Just add Guns n' Roses and a few others in there!

It funny though, my sister is 14 now and she used to LOVE these bands when she was younger.... she was a 5 year old who loved Janis Joplin and Led Zeppelin.... but now she listens to crappy pop music because that's all her friends talk about in school. She'll find her way again though, I hope If not, my parents and I will make her.... lol

My daughter recently came back from England, where she always comes back with British music CD's. I couldn't help laughing at the one by Lilly Allen and one particular song entitled "LDN".

Wow...David Gray is pretty mature-it's a lovely song as well...

As for me, I am assaulted daily by sampling the selection of my 9 year old's MP3...Camillionaire (sp?), Sean Paul, Weird Al, and Mr. Methane. Luckily, he's got some Chemical Bros. on there too, which is his only saving grace !
